Liverpool head to Amsterdam knowing that a point will be enough to see them progress to the knockout stages. It would mean they have progressed from their group in all six campaigns in the competition under Jürgen Klopp, and would be their outright longest ever run of consecutive such qualifications.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last seven away games against Dutch opposition (W4 D3), while keeping a clean sheet in five of these matches and will be hoping to make it four straight Champions League wins after losing on Matchday 1 to group leaders Napoli.

Ajax have lost their last three Champions League matches against Liverpool. The Amsterdam side have only lost 4+ in a row against two teams in the European Cup/Champions League: four vs Juventus (1997 – 2004) and seven vs Real Madrid (2010 – 2019). The Dutch side have won just one of their last eight home European matches against English teams (D1 L6), with their solitary win coming against Manchester City in October 2012 and will need a miracle to make it to the last 16.

Ajax vs Liverpool match stats

Mohamed Salah was in spectacular form in his last Champions League appearance, coming off the bench to set the record for the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history (6 mins, 11 seconds) and becoming the highest scoring player for an English club in UCL history in the process.

Salah has scored 41 goals in the Champions League, three short of the most by an African player in the competition’s history (Didier Drogba, 44). The Egyptian has scored five goals in his last three Champions League games, and could score in four straight appearances in the competition for just a second time, only previously doing so in April 2021.

This will be Liverpool’s 150th UEFA Champions League match, making them the 10th different club to reach that total, and fourth from England after Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd. 62 of those 150 wins have come under Jürgen Klopp, a joint-high in the competition for the Reds, moving the German level with Rafael Benítez.
