Charlton Squawka Score ratings 2026/27
Seven goals in eight games is the lowest total in the Championship, and yet Charlton Athletic sit 10th. Nathan Jones’ side have built their season on a defence that has kept three clean sheets and a goalkeeper in excellent form, and have drawn three of the eight. Finding a way to score more is the whole of the job from here. Below, we take a look at Charlton’s most-used XI so far and how each player has performed, based on the Squawka Score rating system.
The Squawka Score is a metric developed to assess a player’s performance relative to other players in the same position. It is shown as a percentage, and it is worth knowing that 66% is average rather than 50% – a 70% is a good afternoon and 85% or above marks out one of the best players on the pitch. Each score is calculated from a range of per-90-minute statistics, taking in the obvious numbers such as goals and assists alongside some more obscure ones that are far more position-specific. A player’s season figure is simply the average of his match ratings.
One note on the Championship: the division does not carry expected-goals data, so these ratings are built on volume and quality of actions – shots, big chances, duels, clearances, passes into the box – rather than xG and xA.

GK: Arthur Okonkwo – 69% – Twenty-five saves, the most at the club, and 39 progressive passes, also a club high. Okonkwo has been excellent behind a defence that protects him well, and no errors have been charged against him.
RB: Dan McNamara – 63% – Fourteen aerial duels won and eight tackles won from six starts, but the season is defined by a red card that cost him a suspension. Solid rather than influential when available.
RCB: Lloyd Jones – 73% – The best outfield player at the club. Fifty-six clearances, 10 blocked shots and 10 interceptions all lead the squad, with 41 duels won, 29 aerials, two goals and three clean sheets from every available minute. A genuinely dominant season.
LCB: Tyler Bindon – 65% – Thirty-two clearances and 10 interceptions from five starts, with an assist and a clear-cut chance created. Bindon has slotted in alongside Jones without fuss and the record with him in the side is sound.
LB: Amari’i Bell – 62% – Thirty-four duels won, nine tackles won, eight interceptions and a club-leading 20 possessions regained in his own third. Bell does the defensive side of the job thoroughly; the attacking output is close to nil, which is what keeps the rating down.
RCM: Conor Coventry – 64% – Sixty-five passes into the final third leads the club, with nine tackles won, nine blocked shots and three clean sheets. Coventry has been the steadier half of the midfield pairing and rarely gives the ball away.
LCM: Oliver Skipp – 61% – Four starts and 355 minutes, with five occasions beaten one-on-one the most notable figure and not in a good way. Skipp has not yet settled into the side.
AM: Sonny Carey – 67% – Six chances created and 21 passes into the penalty area in only four starts, with an assist. Carey has been Charlton’s most natural creator when fit, and the side looks short of ideas without him.
RW: Karlan Grant – 66% – A goal, an assist and a club-leading 12 chances created, two of them clear-cut, with 44 passes into the penalty area and 15 shots, both club highs. He takes 29 corners and two direct free-kicks. An error leading to a goal is the one mark against him.
LW: Tyreece Campbell – 67% – Four goals, more than double anyone else at the club, from 13 shots with six on target. Add 32 touches in the opposition box and nine completed take-ons, both club-leading figures. Campbell has been Charlton’s one reliable source of goals.
ST: Miles Leaburn – 55% – The lowest rating in the side, and a genuinely unusual statistical profile: 80 duels won and 54 aerial duels won are both the highest figures of any player at the club, but 10 shots have brought no goals and 18 fouls conceded is the most in the squad. Leaburn wins everything in the air and has nothing to show for it.
Charlton Athletic’s set-piece specialists
- Penalties: Charlie Kelman
- Free-kicks: Karlan Grant
- Corners: Karlan Grant, Sonny Carey
Karlan Grant has taken 29 of Charlton’s corners to Sonny Carey’s 5. Karlan Grant has had two of the direct free-kicks. Charlton are yet to be awarded a penalty, so Charlie Kelman’s status as the taker is inherited rather than proven.
