Squawka Betting Tip

Everton have failed to score in each of their past four Premier League games. They've also failed to score in seven of their 13 league games overall this season. Arsenal have found the net 12 times over their last five games. Saka has found the net five times over his last six games in all competitions, whilst Odegaard has averaged 1.25 shots per game in the Premier League this season. Ashley Young has been booked four times in all competitions this season and received one red card.

Everton have conceded at least three goals in three of their seven away league games this season. The club have conceded 21 goals overall this season in the Premier League, an average of 1.5 per game. Arsenal have scored more than three goals four times so far this season in the league, finding the net 29 times in total, a shade under two goals a game.

Squawka Betting Tip

Liverpool have won four of their past six games against Fulham, including the past three at Anfield. But Fulham have scored in five of those six matches. On their last league visit to Anfield, Fulham scored three in a 4-3 defeat. Mohamed Salah has both scored and assisted in each of his past three home league games for Liverpool. Curtis Jones has averaged a shot per game in the Premier League this season.

Squawka Betting Tip

This game has certainly produced goals in recent times, with an average of 3.4 goals over the last five meetings in all competitions. Eight of Liverpool's games this season have beaten the 2.5 goal line, including three of their last five, whilst seven of Fulham's games have seen more than 2.5 goals. Lukic has been booked six times in all competitions this season and has already served a one game suspension. Gravenberch has been booked four times in the league and is one booking away from a suspension of his own.

NewcastleLeicester

Squawka Betting Tip

Newcastle have won just one of their last seven Premier League home games against the Foxes, and the main bet I’m touting on Saturday is Leicester +2 on the match handicap. This means that even if Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side lose the game by one goal, this selection will still be a winner. At 3/10 to win the game, I feel Newcastle are too short, and the value lies with Leicester. In his two matches in charge so far, van Nistelrooy has managed a 3-1 win over West Ham, and a 2-2 draw with Brighton, after his side came back from two goals down with just five minutes remaining. Newcastle have shipped three goals in their last two matches, and I can’t see the visitors being beaten heavily here.

Squawka Betting Tip

Leicester’s first goal was scored by a certain Jamie Vardy who continues to impress at the ripe old age of 37. The Leicester frontman has six goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, and could become just the fifth player aged 37+ to have a hand in 10 goals in a single campaign, after Teddy Sheringham in 2003-04 (9 goals, 4 assists), Gary Speed in 2006-07 (8 goals, 2 assists), Ryan Giggs in 2011-12 (2 goals, 8 assists) and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2021-22 (10 goals). Vardy has been involved in seven goals in his last seven Premier League appearances (4 goals, 3 assists), including at least one in his last three. He could become the oldest player to score or assist in four consecutive Premier League appearances if he does so against the Magpies and at 5/2 I think he’s a shade too big in the to score or assist market.

Squawka Betting Tip

This is a huge game for both teams and a defeat for the hosts could potentially be the final nail in the coffin for Gary O’Neil. I think the Wolves boss will get a tune out of his side on Saturday and I’m backing striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to get his name on the scoresheet. The Norwegian has scored six league goals in total this term, with five of those coming at Molineux. Strand Larsen has bagged against Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Chelsea in the Black Country this season. Bet MGM go 43/20 that he scores against Ipswich which looks a juicy price for a player with five goals in seven home appearances.

Sam Morsy is undoubtedly the standout choice in the player cards market for the visiting side, but for those looking for better value, Omari Hutchinson presents a far more intriguing option at double the price. Hutchinson is currently leading the way for yellow cards, having picked up four already this season for Ipswich Town. What stands out is that three of those bookings have come in away games, meaning Hutchinson has been shown yellow in three of his five Premier League away appearances so far. With odds of 24/5 this implies a modest 17.2% chance of him picking up another card at The City Ground. However, given the recent uptick in bookings across the Premier League, I personally feel those odds are too big, and Hutchinson should be priced much shorter in the market.

Nottingham ForestAston Villa

Squawka Betting Tip

Chris Wood is one of only four players in the Premier League to have scored 10 or more goals this season. The Nottingham Forest striker hit double digits after his goal at Old Trafford last weekend that gave Forest a memorable 3-2 win over Manchester United. In doing so, he also became the first player for the club to score 10 Premier League goals before Christmas, and will have his sights set on bagging against a Villa side who have conceded 11 goals in their last five matches across all competitions. Wood’s numbers this season cannot be argued with. The New Zealand international has 10 league goals from just 14 starts. He has hit the net in three of his last four at the City Ground, and all things considered I’m surprised to see Sky Bet boost him to 2/1 for another against Emery’s men.

I’ve also had a few quid on both Chris Wood and Jhon Duran to score at a juicy looking 11/1 with bet365. Unai Emery confirmed after Aston Villa’s win over Leipzig that Ollie Watkins had been withdrawn at half time due to a small injury he had picked up. This should mean that Jhon Duran should be given a start at the City Ground. Duran will turn 21 the day before this match, and is just one of three players to score 10+ goals for Villa before turning 21, along with Luke Moore (11) and Gabriel Agbonlahor (13). Across all competitions this season, Duran has scored 10 goals in just 805 minutes of football. He has netted the winner in four of their seven league winners this term, and with this same bet paying just 13/2 with Paddy Power, I feel we are getting a generous offering at 11/1 with bet365.

Premier League 2024/25 key dates

Euro 2024 is done and we’re now a month away from the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Teams have already returned for pre-season and friendlies are coming, with there truly being no rest. And teams will all be aiming to depose Manchester City.

For a record-breaking fourth consecutive campaign, Man City are the defending champions. Before Pep Guardiola’s current side, no team had won the English men’s top-flight title four seasons in a row — that’s a record that goes all the way back to the beginning, not just the Premier League.

The question now is, can they win five in a row? Or will one of the challengers finally steal the crown, ending Man City’s domination?

As they always are before any Premier League season, Man City are the early favourites to win the crown. However, it’s much closer than it has been in the past.

The Citizens may have won the title again last season, but they showed real signs of weakness. For the second season in a row, Man City failed to win 10 of their 38 Premier League matches, with seven draws alongside three defeats. They were beaten by Wolves and Arsenal in back-to-back matches before also losing to Aston Villa — three matches Rodri missed due to suspension. But after that Aston Villa defeat at the start of December, Man City won 19 and drew four of their final 23 matches including a nine-game winning streak to end the campaign. It was a run that saw Man City overtake Arsenal at the death, winning the league by two points.

And Arsenal are backed to push them very close once again. Arsenal have been Man City’s closest title challengers in each of the past two seasons, proving their first run was not a fluke. Last season they really looked like they were going to take the crown, leading the race until the final weeks of the season — though Man City did have matches in hand. The Gunners were fantastic in 2023/24, finishing as second-top scorers and had the best defence, conceding just 29 goals. In fact, Arsenal matched Man City’s win-draw-loss record that had been enough to see them beat the Gunners to the title in 2022/23.

Liverpool were the third team in the title race last season, though they fell away just before the end of the campaign. One too many draws put an end to their title hopes with 10 in total, the second-most in the Premier League behind only Brighton. In the end, Liverpool finished nine points behind Man City and seven off Arsenal, though they were a comfortable 14 above fourth-placed Aston Villa. There is a lot of promise in Liverpool’s team, however, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in Arne Slot’s first campaign as manager.

Aston Villa completed the top four last season, finishing two points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. But there appears to be some caution in backing them to repeat the feat in 2024/25. Last season fans saw Newcastle struggle to juggle the Premier League and Champions League, finishing seventh — and failing to qualify for European football — while bowing out at the group stage. But Unai Emery is building a solid unit at Villa Park and has already been busy in the transfer market to try to deal with the added matches that come with the Champions League.

Newcastle have shorter odds than Aston Villa now, owing to the fact that they don’t have the European responsibilities. Tottenham and Manchester United have the same odds as Newcastle, and fans will be hoping to see more from both sides. Tottenham had a decent first season under Ange Postecoglou and led the table at an early stage, before a terrible run pre-Christmas saw them drop. It will now be about finding consistency across the campaign for Tottenham.

At Man Utd, Erik ten Hag remains in charge despite reports that he was set to be sacked at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Winning the FA Cup reportedly wouldn’t be enough to save him, but it looks like it was, with the Dutchman trusted to lead Man Utd to the new campaign. Winning the FA Cup also saw Man Utd secure Europa League football, having finished a lowly eighth in the Premier League in what was their worst season in the competition.

But, outside the three title challengers, Chelsea are the slight favourites to finish in the top four. The Blues had built form towards the end of last season under Mauricio Pochettino which secured them a spot in the Europa Conference League. After a tough campaign trying to mould a very young squad, things were coming up. However, Pochettino left the role at the end of the season and Enzo Maresca is now the man in charge. The man who got Leicester City back into the Premier League, Maresca has a huge task on his hands, but there is a lot of optimism.

Last season, Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United were the teams relegated from the Premier League, just the second time that all three promoted teams when straight back down. At the start of the season, the newly-promoted sides always dominate the favourites to be relegated, and that’s the case once again.

This season, Leicester are the favourites to go down, one of two teams currently odds-on. The Foxes are former Premier League champions and lifted the Championship title last season, though there was some signs of worry with 11 defeats. But the biggest thing counting against Leicester this season will be the loss of Maresca to Chelsea. Steve Cooper has been drafted in to replace him, and he doesn’t have the best record in the Premier League, narrowly avoiding relegation with Nottingham Forest before getting sacked in the second campaign.

Ipswich’s promotion was the exciting story of the 2023/24 Championship campaign for the neutral, sealed on the final day as they nicked the second automatic promotion spot ahead of Leeds. Kieran McKenna had done a fantastic job in securing back-to-back promotions from League One having seen his appointment met by a lot of criticism from Manchester United fans — with McKenna previously working in their academy. McKenna’s work had seen him linked with the then-vacant Chelsea and Brighton jobs, with reports that he was set to leave Ipswich. The Tractor Boys managed to hold onto their man, but they are still odds-on to go straight back down.

Of the three newly-promoted sides, Southampton have been given the best chance to stay up, though they are still third favourites. Saints — who, like Leicester sealed an immediate return — secured their promotion through the play-offs, beating Leeds in the final. It was reward for the faith put in Russell Martin, who led Saints on a club-record 25-game unbeaten run.

Nottingham Forest and Everton also have pretty low odds having struggled in each of the past two campaigns. However, Everton will be hoping to do better this year, ending last season comfortably despite their points deductions. Wolves, Brentford and Fulham also have relatively shorter odds.

What betting markets are popular for the Premier League?

Operating as one of the most popular bets in football, if there’s a wager you’re looking to use your Premier League betting tips on, then full-time results and correct scores fit the bill.

With each game, the odds will differ, based on form and quality. For instance, if Arsenal, the team with the best defence last season, were to face off with Everton, who had the worst attack of those still in the division, you’d expect the Gunners to come out on top.

More popular in recent years have been both teams to score bets. Even if your team loses, you’ll still emerge with cash in hand should they, alongside the victors, make it onto the score-sheet.

This also counts for extra-time and any penalty permutations. The Premier League was a strong league for BTTS bets in the 2023/2024 season, with relegated Luton leading the way in games that saw both teams find the net. A whopping 82% of the Hatters’ games saw BTTS come in, with Tottenham (71%) lead the way for teams still in the Premier League.

Obviously with this being Squawka, we love a stats bet too! These have become more and more prevalent in the last handful of seasons with corners, cards, shots, passes, tackles, offsides and more all available markets on certain Premier League fixtures.
