The 2022/23 Championship season is now past its midway point and the table is really starting to take shape. It looks as though some of Pep Guardiola’s managerial stardust has rubbed off on Turf Moor, with former student Vincent Kompany leading the Championship charge with Burnley. They are joined in the top two by Sheffield United, who reached last season’s play-offs.
The chasing pack then consists of a number of Premier League-aspiring contenders, including Blackburn Rovers, perennial promoters Watford and Middlesbrough, as well as Millwall in sixth. There’s also a bunch of teams separated by just a few points in what might be the closest play-off race in a long time.
Check back here for the latest tips and predictions for each and every game this season.
Who are the favourites to be promoted?
Lancashire rivals Burnley and Blackburn occupy two of the top three after 26 matches played. The former, who seek a Premier League return, are four points clear ahead of second-placed Sheffield United. Watford, Middlesbrough and Millwall currently occupy the remaining play-off spots, though the latter are level on points with Luton.
At the other end, Wigan, Huddersfield and Blackpool occupy the bottom three but Rotherham, Cardiff, Bristol City and Stoke will all be keeping an eye over their shoulders.

Championship In-Play betting tips
With so many Championship games now broadcast live, the league provides a great opportunity for some In Play betting tips.
This particular method of wagering allows you to tailor your bets to the unfolding action, whether that’s a high-profile play-off second-leg or a tussle at the bottom of the table.
Full Time Results
The Championship is often referred to as a league where any team can beat another, and that certainly can be the case. However, this means that there is often great value to be found in the Full Time Results markets, also known as win-draw-win bets.
With many games often taking place at the same time either at 3pm on Saturday afternoon or 7.45pm on a Tuesday evening, this particular market also offers ample opportunity for a Championship accumulator.
Both Teams to Score
Both teams to score has become a very popular bet in recent years as the bet is still alive until the final whistle. The premise is simple – you’re backing both teams to find the net during the 90 minutes. Again, with low-odds usually available, it may be worth combining a few both teams to score selections for a tasty Championship accumulator on a Saturday afternoon for example.
These were the teams most likely to see both teams score in their games according to the 2021/22 season’s stats:
Bristol City – BTTS 67%
Reading/Coventry City/QPR – BTTS 57%
These teams are least likely to see goals from both sides:
Hull City – BTTS 30%
West Brom – BTTS 33%
Player Total Shots
You are now even able to bet on the amount of shots a player takes in a game and this type of bet is popular with our stats-loving Squawka experts. In the Championship you can usually bet on the Overs/Unders markets on how many attempts at goal a player will make in a game.
Player Total Tackles
As above, this bet allows you to wager on how many tackles a certain player will make over the course of a 90 minute match, over or above the line set by the bookmaker.
There are several different markets available on bookings now too. You can back a certain player to receive a booking for example, or even a red card, or you can back the amount of cards shown in a match altogether.
You can even back how many cards are shown to a certain team, or a team to receive more cards than their opponents and we have all the stats to back up our selections in this market too.
One player to consider in this market is Middlesbrough midfielder Matt Crooks, who picked up no fewer than 15 yellow cards last term.
There are also prices available on players to be caught offside a certain amount of times during the game – another perfect market if you have the right stats on hand as we always do. For example, Ben Brereton-Diaz was flagged offside more times than any other player in the Championship last term with the Blackburn striker caught on the wrong side of the defence on 46 occasions.
You can also bet on Under/Over markets in corners in 2022/2023 and also on the ‘Corners Match Result’ market, where you bet on one team to win more than the other during the match.
This Weekend’s Sky Bet Championship Predictions
Looking for some bets on this weekend’s Championship action? Saturday afternoon is when the league really comes to life and we’ve got you covered with the best tips, offers and price boosts at Squawka Bet.
Looking for the best possible value odds on your Championship bet today? Look no further than our Odds Comparison tool.
This particular tool allows you to find the best possible odds on whatever bet you’re looking for – not just in the Championship, but in any available market across the world of football. You can filter the matches by day or by competition, meaning that you’ll be able to find the games taking place today – or you can find the games taking place in Championship or any other league across the next few days too.
All you have to do is click the ‘1×2’ box to bring up other markets such as Over/Under 2.5 goals and Double Chance, select the market you’re looking for and the bet you’re interested in backing and then all of the available odds will be shown for you to wager on.
Remember, these odds also update in real time too, so whenever you’re placing your bet you’re getting the best odds available on the tool.
By clicking the odds you’re hoping to back, the tool will not only take you through to the bookmaker’s site or app, where, if you’re already logged in, the selection will load into your betslip leaving you just a tap of the confirmation button away from your bet being placed. If you don’t already have an account, you can sign-up and take advantage of any new customer offers that are available, from sign-up bonuses and the best available odds – what could be easier than that?
Some bookmakers such as Betfair do offer boosted prices on Championship games. We’ll bring you all the latest enhanced new customer offers, but in the Championship in particular you’re more likely to find offers for all customers, with Sky Bet in particular offering specially selected boosts ahead of most Championship fixtures.
Given the research and knowledge that backs up our Championship Tips, you can now feel confident in placing an accumulator. This is a bet that combines your selections from several different matches for even better value. You can choose different markets on different matches should you wish, but most punters decide to stick to the same markets, perhaps backing ten different teams from five games to find the net in a Championship BTTS accumulator.
Best bookmakers for Championship
Every bookmaker offers a great depth of markets in this league, although some more than others. There are several other factors to take into account when deciding upon a bookmaker to back our Championship tips with. For example, how much value do their odds provide, what is their customer service like and whether they produce any Championship betting offers.
Here are some of the best bookmakers to consider.
