Our New Tipping Method – Best Bets & Longshots
Our ‘Best Bets’ are the tips we’re most confident in backing. This is reflected by a higher stake and, usually, lower odds. We’ve fully researched each game and this is the bet that we think is most likely to come in.
Our ‘Longshots’ are our value bets for each game. They carry the most risk but also the biggest reward. Stakes, and expectations, should be kept low but each tip is still fully researched and holds a chance. Bear this in mind when selecting your stake. These tips will almost always be above a price of 4/1.
There is a definite trend that has emerged in the Championship in recent years. The extra money and budget that is generated by a season in the Premier League has really helped those clubs that have been recently relegated from the top division to have a great chance at going back up again.
Last season, two of the top three had been relegated from the Premier League, with Burnley finishing second and Sheffield United finishing third — the latter eventually losing the playoff final to Sunderland. Top of the pile were Leeds, who went down a year prior and only missed out on an immediate promotion by losing the playoff final in 2023/24.
Sunderland’s promotion perhaps shows just how unpredictable the Championship can be, with the Black Cats going from 16th to fourth in the space of one season. Luton Town suffering a second straight relegation and slipping into League One was equally eye-catching.
Another worrying trend is the promoted three being relegated straight back out of the Premier League in the past two seasons, so Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland will be looking to end that trend next season.
Who will win the Championship title?

Given the financial advantage of those dropping from the Premier League, it’ll come as little surprise to see Ipswich and Southampton occupying the top two favourite spots to win the Championship next season.
There is a mix of teams below them, though, with near-missers Sheffield United third, just ahead of League One winners Birmingham, who have a sizeable budget.
The likes of Middlesbrough, Coventry and Norwich are all high up, as are Leicester, who were also relegated from the Premier League but must walk a delicate financial tightrope.
But the standout dark horse is undoubtedly Wrexham, or should we say, Hollywood FC. Can Reynolds and McElhenney’s side earn their fourth straight promotion straight into the big-time?
Who will reach the play-offs in the Championship?
As always, there will be a gaggle of clubs who aspire to reach the top six to give themselves a chance at promotion through the play-offs.
The aforementioned Middlesbrough, Coventry, and Norwich should have great chances, while it may be the best route through for the promoted sides, Birmingham and Wrexham.
Over half of the league will fancy their chances of a top-six berth, but it will be highly competitive.
Who will be relegated from the Championship?
The relegation market will be compelling this season.
Charlton Athletic will be viewed as the weakest of the promoted teams and thus, among the favourites to go straight back down.
However, they could battle it out with the likes of Hull, Preston, Derby, Stoke and Oxford, who all only just managed to stay in the division last season.

When do you release your Championship tips?
We aim to post our Championship tips and predictions around 48 hours before kick-off, allowing punters time to weigh up their options. Time periods and odds can change depending on fixture congestion.
For every Championship game throughout the season you will find a tip on this page ahead of the game getting underway and for some games we’ll even have specially curated Squawka Bet previews with all of the relevant Championship odds, team news, stats and of course most importantly – our betting tips and predictions.
Today’s Championship betting tips
Looking for tips on today’s Championship games? Check the top of this page to see our tips for the upcoming matches. When betting on the day of the game, there is plenty to consider and you should always check the team news and form ahead of kick-off.
Championship In-Play betting tips
With so many Championship games now broadcast live, the league provides a great opportunity for some In Play betting tips.
This particular method of wagering allows you to tailor your bets to the unfolding action, whether that’s a high-profile play-off second-leg or a tussle at the bottom of the table.
Full Time Results
The Championship is often referred to as a league where any team can beat another, and that certainly can be the case. However, this means that there is often great value to be found in the Full Time Results markets, also known as win-draw-win bets.
With many games often taking place at the same time either at 3pm on Saturday afternoon or 7.45pm on a Tuesday evening, this particular market also offers ample opportunity for a Championship accumulator.
Both Teams to Score
Both teams to score has become a very popular bet in recent years as the bet is still alive until the final whistle. The premise is simple – you’re backing both teams to find the net during the 90 minutes. Again, with low-odds usually available, it may be worth combining a few both teams to score selections for a tasty Championship accumulator on a Saturday afternoon for example.
These were the teams most likely to see both teams score in their games according to the 2023/2024 season’s stats, all with 63% of their matches ending with both teams on the scoresheet:
- Hull City
- Norwich City
- Coventry City
Meanwhile, Millwall (39%) and Sheffield Wednesday (37%) saw the lowest number of BTTS matches in the Championship last season.
Player Total Shots
You are now even able to bet on the amount of shots a player takes in a game and this type of bet is popular with our stats-loving Squawka experts. In the Championship you can usually bet on the Overs/Unders markets on how many attempts at goal a player will make in a game.
Player Total Tackles
As above, this bet allows you to wager on how many tackles a certain player will make over the course of a 90 minute match, over or above the line set by the bookmaker.
Bookings
There are several different markets available on bookings now too. You can back a certain player to receive a booking for example, or even a red card, or you can back the amount of cards shown in a match altogether.
You can even back how many cards are shown to a certain team, or a team to receive more cards than their opponents and we have all the stats to back up our selections in this market too.
One player to consider in this market is Watford midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who picked up no fewer than 14 yellow cards last term – the joint highest amount in the league.
Corners Taken
You can also bet on Under/Over markets in corners in 2023/2024 and also on the ‘Corners Match Result’ market, where you bet on one team to win more than the other during the match.

Championship Price boosts
Some bookmakers such as Betfair do offer boosted prices on Championship games. We’ll bring you all the latest enhanced new customer offers, but in the Championship in particular you’re more likely to find offers for all customers, with Sky Bet in particular offering specially selected boosts ahead of most Championship fixtures.
Championship Accumulators
Given the research and knowledge that backs up our Championship Tips, you can now feel confident in placing an accumulator. This is a bet that combines your selections from several different matches for even better value. You can choose different markets on different matches should you wish, but most punters decide to stick to the same markets, perhaps backing ten different teams from five games to find the net in a Championship BTTS accumulator.
Best bookmakers for Championship
Every bookmaker offers a great depth of markets in this league, although some more than others. There are several other factors to take into account when deciding upon a bookmaker to back our Championship tips with. For example, how much value do their odds provide, what is their customer service like and whether they produce any Championship betting offers.
Here are some of the best bookmakers to consider.

And if none of them take your fancy, almost all bookmakers offer the chance to get your hands on a sign-up bonus, usually in the shape of some free bets which is a great way to get your Championship betting experience off to the best possible start.
