Europa League Predictions & Betting Tips

The 2022/23 Europa League group stage is over and the tournament will take a break until the New Year, when the Squawka Bet team will bring you our best betting insights for the competition.

Europa League 2022/2023

The Europa League often gets laughed at by fans of Champions League clubs, but last season’s competition was full of drama and excitement. Eintracht Frankfurt wrote their names into the history books in 2021/22, ending their long wait for a European trophy by beating Rangers 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 1-1 draw.

It also ended a 10-season stranglehold on the competition by Spanish and English teams, with Sevilla winning four Europa Leagues during that time.

This season has been another exciting edition so far, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Real Betis all confirming their spots in the knockout stages. Jose Mourinho’s Roma are also involved, but the defending Europa Conference League champions had to fight hard to stay in the competition – at the same time surrendering their crown of the tertiary tournament.

Who are the 2022/23 Europa League favourites?

The Europa League group stage is over which means we have lost 16 teams but also gained an extra eight with the Champions League dropouts. Arsenal were the early favourites for the competition and kept that title after their barnstorming start to the new season, winning 15 of their 18 games across all competitions including five in the Europa League.

They remain favourites at the end of the group stage and are joined high up by Premier League rivals Man Utd. The Red Devils bounced back from a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in their opening Europa League match to win their next five games, only missing out on top spot on goal difference. So instead of qualifying directly for the last 16 they must navigate the knockout round playoffs.

And it’s there where they could face Barcelona, who have dropped down from the Champions League and stormed in to become second favourites – between Arsenal and Man Utd. The Blaugrana managed just two wins from their six Champions League matches, losing twice to Bayern Munich and once against Inter Milan to be knocked out.

Last season, Jose Mourinho became the first ever manager to win the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League and even got a tattoo on his arm to mark the occasion. This year, the Special One will be looking to add another record to his CV, winning the UEFA Cup/Europa League with three different sides.

However, it was a bumpy ride for Roma who won just one of their opening four matches, while also losing to Ludogorets and Real Betis. The Italian only sealed their spot in the knockout round playoffs with a win over Ludogorets on the final day.

A Full Time result bet is the most popular style of bet on any given match in any competition. The premise is quite simple here, you’re just backing what you expect the outcome to be – a victory for either side or a draw. Many punters often combine several of our Europa League betting tips in this market in order to create a longer-odds accumulator, a particularly intriguing idea in this competition with so many games tending to be played at the same time.

As above, Both Teams To Score is a market that you will find to be particularly popular in the earlier stages of the competition when there’s a raft of games being played at the same time on a Thursday evening. You are betting on both teams to find the net over the course of the 90 minutes and it’s a bet that lends itself to long accumulators with the same selection backed on a range of different matches. Coral are a bookmaker that offers an easy route to a BTTS coupon.

The Squawka Bet experts love a stats market too! You can now bet on how many shots or even shots on target a player will take over the course of the 90-minute match, a market that is likely to be utilised later in the campaign when you’re settling down to watch a specific tie. You can also bet on a certain player to make a certain amount of tackles during a game – with some bookmakers offering a large amount of different numbers of tackles to be made.

How about those players that are set to mistime their tackles? You can back teams to receive over a certain number of bookings in a game, or the match to have a certain amount of bookings – or even a specific player to be shown a card during the game such will be the depth of markets available on Europa League games in the 2022/2023 season.

Best Bookmakers for betting on the Europa League

The Europa League has become one of the most exciting markets for bookmakers for a handful of reasons. Not only does it possess some of the biggest names in European football each and every year, including some that drop out of the Champions League after the group stages, but almost all games are played on a Thursday night, meaning it is rarely competing with domestic fixtures or Champions League games.

Now, most bookmakers really see the value of these fixtures, with English teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea lifting the trophy in the last few years and fans tending to show more and more interest as the tournament progresses and the chance of silverware increases.

That means you can find a host of Europa League betting offers and enhanced accumulators every Thursday throughout the season with most bookmakers, including the ones below – which we have selected as our favourites in this particular competition.

What other competitions do you offer tips for?

Of course, the Europa League’s matches are mostly scheduled for a Thursday evening, when there generally aren’t games in other competitions taking place. However, if you’re looking for tips for another day, we’ve got you covered with a whole range of different tournaments, competitions and leagues right here at Squawka Bet.
