The 2022/23 Scottish Premiership season is here, getting underway over the final weekend of July, and the 12 teams are fighting for glory.
Celtic enter the campaign as champions, winning their title back from Rangers in an excellent first campaign as manager for Ange Postecoglou. It was the Bhoys’ 10th title in the past 11 seasons and moves them just three behind Rangers in the fight to be Scotland’s most dominant club.
Who will win the Scottish Premiership?
As it has been for quite some time, the Scottish Premiership is once again expected to be a two-horse race. Celtic and Rangers have had a stranglehold over the Scottish top flight for decades, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen the last side to win the title outside the Big Two – in 1984/85.
Since that season, Celtic and Rangers have shared 37 titles with the Bhoys just about edging the head-to-head at 19 to 18 – moving clear thanks to last season’s win. As defending champions, Celtic will be confident of their chances to retain their title, especially as they haven’t won fewer than three titles in a row since 2003/04 when their success was sandwiched by Rangers taking the league (albeit as part of a wider Celtic-dominated period).
Celtic have been busy in the summer transfer window, signing Jota on a permanent basis with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy also signing (among others), but Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers have also added to their squad. A total of seven players have been signed to Ibrox including Rabbi Matondo, Ben Davies and Tom Lawrence.

Who will qualify for Europe in the Scottish Premiership?
Overall, the Scottish Premiership has four European qualification spots covering two competitions. While the title winner will go straight into the Champions League group stage, the runners-up gets a spot in the third-qualifying round.
Third and fourth then enter the qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League, in the third and second qualifying rounds respectively. Scotland’s Europa League spot goes to the Scottish Cup winner.
Last season, Hearts and Dundee United joined Celtic and Rangers in the top four and the former actually got a spot in the Europa League play-off round as Rangers won the Scottish Cup. That meant fifth-placed Motherwell took the Europa Conference League second qualifying round spot – where they lost 3-0 to Sligo Rovers.
Who will be relegated from the Scottish Premiership?
At the end of 2021/22, Dundee were relegated from the Scottish Premiership and replaced by Kilmarnock. St Johnstone finished in the Premiership play-off spot but kept their place in the top flight by beating second-tier Inverness Caledonian Thistle 6-2 over two legs.
The same process is in place for 2022/23 with the bottom club going straight to the Scottish Championship and the 11th-placed side having a second chance of safety via the play-offs. On top of Kilmarnock and St Johnstone, Aberdeen will be hoping to do better than last season, as will St Mirren and Hibernian.

To score and win tips
Here’s a two-fold punt for you to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use: simply decide which player you think will score and see his team emerge with all three points come the final whistle.
Both teams to score
All you need for this particular wager to come through is both teams to find the back of the net, regardless of whether your team actually wins (some respite for fans of teams in the lower reaches of the division).
Sky Bet might be the bookmaker to go for here for their excellent value and easy to use app.
As simple as they come, all you have to do is decide whether or not you think the game will feature a penalty, whether it’s a top-of-the-table clash, or a scrap in the league’s basement.
To score a header
This may not seem the like the most profitable market to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use, but once you see some of the giants that play across the league, you may be more inclined.
Players total shots
Very simply put, all you need to do to cop out on this Scottish Premiership free bet is wager on which player will barrage the opposition goal with the most number of shots.
When it comes to cards – there’s not a league that does it better than the Scottish Premiership.
Livingston were the team to back on cards bets last season as they racked up no fewer than 80 yellows in 33 matches, while Hibernian had eight sending-offs – more than any other team.
Players offside by a few strands of hair, by a middle toe, or by a shade of their nose? We’ve heard it all before, and this time, we’re going one better by providing you the opportunity to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use on it.
This particular market could be an overs/unders one, so the mission, if you choose to accept it, will involve clueing up on all the research ahead of time through our analytical previews to make sure you pick the right tally.
You can, however, also back teams to win more corners than their opponents in the match, so make sure you know which teams are ranking highly for corners both won and conceded before placing your bet.
