The long-awaited 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season is well underway, with the action having kicked off on the 1st August ahead of other competitive leagues.
And just as it panned out in last year’s campaign, it seems as if it’s another two-horse title-race between Neil Lennon’s Celtic and their cross-town rivals Rangers, with the former looking to secure their tenth consecutive league title.
So, will a decade of dominance atop the table continue with another title win for the Hoops? Well if they can hold on to last season’s top goal-scorer and Player of the Year Odsonne Edouard, the odds look far more attractive.
Indeed, the 22-year-old has showcased all his skills and trickery across a fruitful spell in the Scottish Premiership and if the Bhoys can hold off interest from a host of reportedly interested top European clubs.
With Scotland stars like Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and James Forrest all key members of Lennon’s first-choice team, it seems as if Celtic are ripe for making history with a 10th successive title.
All eyes are on whether Steven Gerrard’s men can slow Celtic’s march to complete supremacy. Sure, at this still early stage of the season, they seem to more than be keeping pace with the title holders – but it remains to be seen if they can show the kind of consistency that has been lacking in their last two title charges.
Given that both clubs are in the Europa League again this season though, their schedules will be packed and some clubs may even see this as an opportunity to try and break up the Old Firm duopoly.
Aberdeen and Hibernian make up the next couple of teams in the wake of the top two that seem most likely to break down that barrier this season.
The first of the duo finished fourth last season, but will be looking to climb the table into third with summer signings Johnny Hayes and Tommie Hoban having been sealed and delivered.
Meanwhile Hibernian – the only team from the capital playing in the Scottish Premiership following Hearts’ relegation last term – will probably finish behind, albeit in a European spot, with Kilmarnock vying for the same position.
At the other end of the table, things look to be just as enticing in the betting markets and predictive pieces.
Leading the 2020/21 relegation race is St Mirren. Having narrowly avoided the drop in the last few seasons, Jim Goodwin’s men have definitely been riding their luck.
But with the signings of keeper Jak Alnwick from Rangers and Richard Tait from Motherwell, they’ll be out to make themselves more difficult to beat this time around.
However, considering that there’s been a mass exodus at the club in the summer, with plenty of big stars leaving St Mirren Park for less murkier waters, there’s very little to suggest that they’ll be able to orchestrate a great escape.
Expect the likes of Livingston and Hamilton Academical – a side that’s remained in the Scottish Premiership by the skin of their teeth due to the decision not to play relegation play-offs last season – to join them in the relegation battle at the foot of the league table.

If you want to elevate and enhance to your online betting experience, you’ll have to check out the Squawka Bet Scottish Premiership in-play betting services.
Indeed, with this handy little platform of hand, you’ll be able to do one of two things: 1) bet on the live, unfolding action as it happens before you 2) tweak and tailor your wagers to all the in-game drama to ensure that you emerge with the best possible payout in hand.
So, whether that’s the Old Firm derby, or a bottom-of-the-league scrap, keep an eye on the fluctuating odds.
If there’s ever a market that could deliver you the best Scottish Premiership odds and payouts, its the full-time result/final score.
Though each game differs, from odds to individual brilliance, injuries, form and styles of play, as long as you do the homework on which team possesses high-scoring players and which team will choose to defend deep, you’ll always emerge with cash in hand.
To score and win tips
Here’s a two-fold punt for you to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use: simply decide which player you think will score and see his team emerge with all three points come the final whistle.
Of course, the team that leads those charts are none other than Neil Lennon’s Celtic and their star man Odsonne Edouard. But let’s put some respect on Rangers’ name too – they are just as likely to ensure you cop out on this bet as the reigning champs with the likes of Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos.
Both teams to score
All you need for this particular wager to come through is both teams to find the back of the net, regardless of whether your team actually wins (some respite for fans of teams in the lower reaches of the division)
For this kind of bet, you want to look for which teams like to play on the front foot even if it means leaving themselves exposed at the back – we’re looking at the likes of Livingston and Hamilton Academical here. Sky Bet might be the bookmaker to go for here for their excellent value and easy to use app.
As simple as they come, all you have to do is decide whether or not you think the game will feature a penalty, whether it’s a top-of-the-table clash, or a scrap in the league’s basement.
Interestingly enough, it’s Rangers and St Mirren who have copped the most pens in the last few years – two of their most recent encounters saw eight penalties awarded. Yes, that’s eight for the people in the back.
To score a header
This may not seem the like the most profitable market to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use, but once you hear of the giants that play across the league, you may be more inclined.
From Rangers defender Nikola Katic to 6’4 Celtic man Kristoffer Ajer – there are plenty of beasts that could make the odds about a headed goal more likely, and in turn, your chances to emerge with cash in hand too.
Players total shots
Very simply put, all you need to do to cop out on this Scottish Premiership free bet is wager on which player will barrage the opposition goal with the most number of shots.
Now, last season’s odds put Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard in the hot seat, and he followed suit with a fair share in the 89 goals his team scored last season. But will he rise to the challenge in the Bhoy’s 2020/21 campaign?
When it comes to cards – there’s not a league that does it better than the Scottish Premiership.
So far, even being only eight weeks in, there’s already been 115 yellow cards and eight reds – which says it all when it comes to betting on bookings in Scottish football – go high!
Players offside by a few strands of hair, by a middle toe, or by a shade of their nose? We’ve heard it all before, and this time, we’re going one better by providing you the opportunity to put those Scottish Premiership tips to use on it.
As expected, it’ll be the strikers topping the charts, from Edouard to Ryan Kent, so keep your eyes peeled for any players who cross that thin blue VAR line.
This particular market could be an overs/unders one, so the mission, if you choose to accept it, will involve clueing up on all the research ahead of time through our analytical previews to make sure you pick the right tally.
You can, however, also back teams to win more corners than their opponents in the match, so make sure you know which teams are ranking highly for corners both won and conceded before placing your bet.
