Our Betfair Review

Betfair, renowned for its global Exchange since 2000, has enhanced its appeal with the Sportsbook introduced in 2012, offering a wide range of markets and bet types, including in-play options. They stand out with regular customer offers like daily Odds Boosts, enhanced odds on up to three horses daily, and extra places on horse races. Additionally, Betfair rewards £5 free bets for £20 bets on multiples or bet builders. The platform is user-friendly, with a well-organized desktop interface and a smoother mobile app, ensuring easy navigation, bet selection, and a quick betting process.

How Do Clients Feel About Betfair

Betfair is a hugely popular betting site that is well-established. That means there has been plenty of feedback from real customers. Our experts look at this information for genuine feedback from personal experiences.

A significant number of positive comments that we saw recorded by numerous people were about the Betfair customer service. There were plenty of instances where customer service quickly and efficiently solved the issue, which was highly appreciated.

There seemed to be a distinct dichotomy of what people thought about the value of odds. At the same time, plenty of customers were happy about the quotes they received on the sportsbook and exchange, just as many insinuated that since being taken over by Paddy Power (now Flutter Entertainment), Betfair odds weren’t as strong as they used to be.

We did run into several complaints posted about cashing out on accas, with one punter claiming to have been offered a minimal offer compared to the value of stake played, while another stated, “I placed a 5 team accumulator and four teams won…so I decided to cash out, but one result, showing a 2-1 win wasn’t registering as a win, so wouldn’t allow my cash out.”

How Does Betfair’s Sign-Up Offer Compare With Other Bookmakers?

The format of the Betfair joining bonus is straightforward, which is claiming a free bet for making a qualifying stake.

Therefore, we can directly compare the bonuses against those offered by other online bookmakers.

Are Betfair Odds Fair?

Here are some clear examples of bookmaker margins that we uncovered at Betfair. The bookmaker margin, or overround, directly relates to odds, as it involves the operator’s cut of profit.

Crystal Palace vs Everton – Premier League

Home Win: 2.45

Draw: 3.1

Away Win: 3.1

Margin: 105.33%

Payout: 94.67%

Chelsea vs Manchester City – Premier League

Home Win: 4.5

Draw: 3.8

Away Win: 1.73

Margin: 106.34%

Payout: 93.66%

Blackburn vs Preston – The Championship

Home Win: 1.91

Draw: 3.6

Away Win: 4.0

Margin: 105.13%

Payout: 94.87%

The conclusions to draw from that are positive. In our opinion, Betfair run some good bookie margins, averaging around the 105% mark for Premier League fixtures.

How Competitive are Betfair’s Odds?

For a closer look at direct odds value against other bookmakers, I performed an odds comparison test on a few Premier League matches, one of the most popular areas of UK betting.

Wolverhampton vs Tottenham – Premier League

The away side, Tottenham, were the favourites in the match outright, with Betfair quoting 2.15 on them to collect three points. This was a good average quote across many bookmakers, matching the likes of Bet365 and SkyBet. BetMGM and BetUK did top them at 2.18 on the Spurs win.

Manchester Utd vs Luton – Premier League

Next, I looked at a match where there was a heavy favourite, with United at very short odds to claim the win. To explore the competitiveness of Betfair odds, I looked at the draw, which Betfair had quoted at 5.5 odds. While Betfair beat the likes of Bet365, Coral and SkyBet in this one, they were strongly out-quoted by BetUK and MGM, who offered 6.0 odds on the draw.

Crystal Palace vs Everton – Premier League

For a final check on Betfair value, I dipped into the Over/Under market for Crystal Palace vs Everton. The match outright odds depicted this as likely being a close encounter. For Under 2.5 Goals, Betfair quoted 1.67, easily beating many main competitors, including Bet365 and BoyleSports. The Betfair odds were only narrowly beaten by Unibet, BetUK and BetMGM at a 1.68 quote.

In summary, combined with some decent margins, the odds comparison showed me that Betfair delivered some excellent fair odds.

Betfair Key Sportsbook Features

Betfair Exchange

The Betfair Exchange is a slightly different way to bet to the Sportsbook. You’re not betting against the bookmaker – you are betting against other punters, like yourself. So the way it works is if you want to place a bet on a team to win, that bet has to be matched by someone betting on that same team not to win. So there are two ways to bet on the Exchange, there is a back bet, which is what punters are familiar with, and the other is a lay bet, where you are betting on an outcome not to happen. Therefore, the punters determine the odds, which can often be different from what the Sportsbook offers. Money must be available from the opposite outcome at the equivalent odds for your bet to be matched. So if you want to back a team to win at odds of 2.4, someone must be willing to lay that team to win at odds of 2.4 to match your bet. If there isn’t any money available at your desired odds by the time the event has finished and the market is no longer active, your bet simply won’t get matched, and you’ll get your money returned into your account.

It’s a slightly different betting dynamic to a Sportsbook, but it can be advantageous, especially when betting at larger odds. Do note that Betfair takes a 5% commission of your winnings, which will be deducted from your returns if your bet wins.

Bet Builder

The Betfair Bet Builder tool enables you to create a same-game multi. Navigate to the match you wish to bet on, then go to the Bet Builder tab. It offers a list of eligible markets, and you can add any selections from those markets to combine into a single bet. The cumulative odds are automatically calculated. All the selections must succeed for this bet to win, just like an accumulator.

#OddsOnThat

With the Betfair #OddsOnThat feature, options from multiple markets can be selected to create a bet. The difference between this and a Bet Builder is that you build the bet and then reach out to Betfair for a quote on your unique wager. There is no guarantee they will offer a quote.

Betfair Live Streaming

Being able to watch the event you’ve placed a bet on makes it so much better, which is why Betfair offering the ability to live stream certain events is excellent. They have a variety of sports that provide a live streaming service, including Football, Horse Racing, Tennis, Basketball, Snooker, and more.

500+ Football Markets

The number of markets Betfair supports make for a football punter’s dream. Match result, goals, cards, corners, throw-ins, individual player markets, plus a load more, make your options at Betfair extremely wide-ranging.

Substitution Guarantee

A nice little insurance offer from Betfair is their Substition Guarantee promotion, where punters will receive money back with the bet voided if you’ve bet on a player-specific market and your chosen player is substituted in the first 10 minutes. This applies to all Premier League, Champions League, Europa League (from Group Stage onwards) matches on selected markets

Earn £10 in cash for every friend you refer

Although quite popular in other industries, earning cash or free bets for referring friends is something you rarely see in the sports betting industry, making Betfair’s offer to earn £10 in cash for every time you refer a friend as a new customer is very intriguing. You’ll receive your reward by sharing your personal referral link and when your friend stakes £10 or more on the Sportsbook, Exchange or Casino, you’ll be credit with £10 in cash to your Betfair account.

Cash Out

Cash Out options are widely available across the Betfair sportsbook. The feature lets you settle a bet early if the conditions fall into place. A Cash Out offer will be less than the payout on a fully settled bet because it mitigates some risk. Partial Cash out is also available, where you settle part of an active bet, leaving the rest to run on the wager.
