With AEK rock solid at the back on home soil and LASK struggling to score away from home, a controlled home win that stays below three goals looks well judged, making AEK to win and under 2.5 goals a sensible combination.
4/1 PLACE BETLuka Jovic is a proven finisher, with 39 goals in his Eintracht Frankfurt days and five already in 14 games for AEK, and he has found the net in this Champions League run, so fancying the striker anytime against a LASK side beaten 3-0 at Celtic makes real sense. For the second leg, Daniel Elfadli is a combative defender whose recent record shows four yellow cards plus a red across a 30-game spell, along with roughly 20 fouls committed, marking him out as a strong candidate to pick up a booking against a lively AEK front line.
25/4 PLACE BETAston Villa arrive as seasoned Champions League operators and will back their quality to take the points in Belgium. Both teams to score looks a fair angle: Villa have conceded in each of their last two outings, shipping four at Brighton, so there are clearly openings at their end, while Villa themselves carry the individual class to find the net on the road. Club Brugge will pose a threat in front of their own supporters, pointing to goals at both ends. With Villa fancied to edge it but unlikely to keep a clean sheet, a Villa win with both teams scoring holds appeal.
16/5 PLACE BETEmiliano Buendía offers Villa a real creative and goal threat, with 21 goals across his Villa career and 24 in his Norwich days, so he rates as a live anytime scorer whenever he is involved. The standout leg, though, is Boubacar Kamara to be booked: the combative midfielder is a serial offender, collecting 21 yellow cards and a red for Villa on top of 32 yellows and three reds during his Marseille days, from a huge tally of fouls. In a fierce Champions League tie, the enforcer looks a strong bet to be carded again.
9/1 PLACE BETReal Madrid have a commanding record in this fixture, winning each of the last four meetings with Inter, and they have been rampant at the Bernabéu lately, thrashing Málaga 4-0 and Real Sociedad 4-1. That home firepower is the basis for backing both a Real win and a hatful of goals. Inter arrive scoring freely too, beating Napoli 3-2 and Monza 4-1 in Serie A, so they carry a real threat of their own. With Madrid overwhelming on their own patch and both sides in goal-laden form, a high-scoring Real victory clearing 4.5 goals is the bold but backable play.
7/2 PLACE BETThis pairs two elite marksmen. Jude Bellingham has been sensational for Real Madrid, plundering 47 goals in 136 appearances from an attacking-midfield role, so he is a prime anytime scorer at the Bernabéu. Lautaro Martínez carries the Inter threat, the Argentine having racked up a remarkable 169 goals in 366 games for the club. Both are their side’s go-to man in the box, and neither defence is immune at this level, so backing Bellingham and Lautaro to each find the net makes for a strong double on a big Champions League night.
10/1 PLACE BETThis looks a well-matched Champions League tie between two sides who like to play. Lille showed their attacking side in a 2-2 home draw with PSG, and Betis have been involved in goals too, including a 5-2 at Levante, so there is a platform for goals here. Both carry proven scorers up top and neither is likely to sit back at this level. With little to separate the pair on quality and a real chance of an open, evenly-poised contest, a draw with over 2.5 goals is a tempting shout at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
10/1 PLACE BETThis one pairs two proven goalscorers. Ayase Ueda is a natural finisher, netting 31 goals in 58 games during his Feyenoord days and 10 in 14 for Japan, so he leads the Lille line with real pedigree. Troy Parrott matches him, having plundered 30 goals in 57 games for AZ and already opened his account for Betis, on top of six in five for the Republic of Ireland. With both strikers carrying strong scoring records and spearheading their teams’ attacks, backing Ueda and Parrott to each find the net makes for an appealing double.
5/1 PLACE BETBorussia Dortmund look strong at home, having won their opening Bundesliga games including a 3-2 at Hoffenheim and a 2-0 over Hamburg, and Signal-Iduna-Park is the ideal stage for a goal-laden night. Villarreal have been involved in plenty of goals themselves, losing 3-2 at home to Deportivo and drawing 2-2 with both Atlético and Racing, so they both score and concede. With Dortmund fancied to win in front of the Yellow Wall and both sides open at the back, Dortmund to win with over 3.5 goals is a bold but well-founded call.
5/2 PLACE BETSerhou Guirassy is a relentless goalscorer, with 61 goals in 95 games for Dortmund on top of 44 in 51 during his Stuttgart days, so he rates as a prime anytime scorer against a Villarreal side that has leaked goals on its travels. The second leg leans on Tajon Buchanan’s disciplinary record: the combative wide man has collected 11 yellow cards in 62 games for Villarreal off a steady stream of fouls, marking him out as a strong candidate to be booked in a fierce Champions League atmosphere at the Signal-Iduna-Park.
5/1 PLACE BETPep Guardiola’s side arrive at the Dragao off a routine 1-0 home win over Coventry and a 2-1 defeat of Bournemouth, and City have simply too much quality for this stage. The bet needs a clean sheet, and while Porto have scored in all five league outings so far, City’s back line has kept things tight at home this season. Erling Haaland leads the line with 175 career goals in 210 appearances, so goals at one end look nailed on. Back City to control the tempo, dominate possession and keep Porto quiet enough to land the win-to-nil angle.
11/5 PLACE BETHaaland remains the most reliable striker in the game, with 175 goals from 210 matches for City and 396 shots on target across his career, so backing him to find the net is business as usual against any opponent. Cherki has settled quickly since his move, already contributing 13 goals in 60 appearances and adding a creative edge from the number ten role. With City expected to carve out chance after chance at the Dragao, both attackers should get sights of goal. Two of the sharpest finishers in Guardiola’s squad firing on the same night makes plenty of sense.

Full-time results
The most popular bet in any league and with any sportsbook is betting on the full-time result. This is as simple as betting on which team you expect to win the game – or indeed on the draw if that’s the final outcome of the game that you’re expecting.

Correct score
Of course, you don’t just have to bet on the outcome of a particular game (results wise that is), you can also have a punt on the exact scoreline. From a 6-0 drubbing to a goalless stalemate, the option’s yours if you fancy your chances at predicting the correct score.
Both Teams to Score
Both teams to score bets are almost as popular as full-time result bets nowadays, given that it is a very simple market to bet on with shorter odds and thus they also prove particularly popular with accumulators and multiple backers.
You’re simply betting on both teams to find the net over the course of the 90 minutes with this bet and that can prove to be more of a popular bet than a match result bet as the hopes of it being successful can remain alive until the final kick of the match.
Over/Under Goals Bets
The over/under goals betting market allows punters to bet on whether both teams will score more or less of a specified number of goals in a game. The market is in intervals of 0.5 to ensure all bets are settled.
Example: The 2.5 goals margin is the most popular specified number of goals in this market. If both teams score a total of 2 goals or less the bet is lost. If both teams score a total of 3 goals or more, the bet is settled as a win.
Bookings
That Over/Under style of betting (as mentioned above) is worth remembering, as it is also the way that many other markets are offered including a number of total bookings in a match – be that in total or on a specific team. Everton have the most bookings in the Premier League this season for example (64), so you could bet on them to receive over a certain number of cards in a specific match, if you are so inclined.
There are other markets when it comes to betting on bookings in a game too and you can bet on which side will receive the most bookings, if there will be a red card in the match and with some bookmakers you can even bet on specific players to be shown a card during the match. Step forward Ashley Young, who is the current Premier League player with the highest amount of cards in their career so far with 79 to his name. You can find these kinds of odds on bookmakers such as Ladbrokes and Sky Bet.
Corners Taken
You can also bet on Under/Over markets in corners in 2022/2023 and also on the ‘Corners Match Result’ market, where you bet on one team to win more corners than the other during the match. Newcastle United topped the charts in the Premier League in 2022/23, whilst Bayern Munich were the team to watch in these markets over in the Bundesliga.
Goalscorer
There are plenty of ‘goalscorer‘ markets also available if you fancy a particular team or player to net that day. For player-specific odds, most bookmakers offer a ‘first goalscorer’, ‘anytime goalscorer’ or ‘last goalscorer’ market, which could be particularly useful if a player is facing a certain club. Harry Kane has scored 20 goals in 20 games against Leicester City during his career, so you may fancy his chances against The Foxes. Didier Drogba was also famously clinical against Arsenal, while Wayne Rooney loved playing against West Ham.

Home advantage
There are so many factors to consider when placing a football bet, but one of the most important ones is ‘home advantage’. Clubs tend to perform better on familiar soil, just look at Liverpool‘s incredible run of 68 games unbeaten in the Premier League between 2017 and 2021. So before placing a bet, just be mindful of which club is at home, and whether the visiting team has a particularly good record on the road.
Head-to-head record
Another point to remember is head-to-head records between clubs. Some teams just have ill-luck and misfortune against other teams, for whatever reason, be it tactical, psychological or Lady Luck just doesn’t fancy them. West Ham, for example, are winless against Brighton since The Seagulls returned to the Premier League in 2017. That’s a staggering 12 games! Now that’s a bogey team and a half.
Team form
Football has always been a confidence sport, and when the chips are really down, clubs have a tendency to tailspin. So, it’s always worth checking the form of clubs heading into important match-ups. The league table can be deceptive at times. If a club had a particularly poor start to the season, but have won five on the trot under a new manager, the table may not reflect that upturn in fortune just yet. So always consider the last five games as a standard measuring yard.
Team news & injuries
Some players really do just make all the difference. It is always within your interest to check the team news before placing a bet. Some managers are coy in press conferences and bookies may not always be so quick to read between the lines, so make sure your injury information is up to date and from a reliable source. Clubs like Crystal Palace and Tottenham tend to perform way below their usual standards without Jean-Philippe Mateta and James Maddison respectively, so make sure the key men are fit, and if not, you may fancy the other team.
Unfamiliar leagues
Before placing a bet, you need to consider whether you’re actually familiar with what you’re betting on. It’s all well and good predicting PSG to ‘win to nil’ against Lens back in January, but you may have reconsidered that particular bet if you knew how good The Blood and Gold have been this season. Lens went on to win 3-1 in that Ligue 1 match, and it wasn’t as great a shock as many would have thought before the season. So, understand the league you’re betting on for the greatest chance of success.
Overvaluing favourites
The above pitfall falls into this category as well. Odds for ‘favourites’ will naturally be shorter, but we don’t exactly have ‘Invincible’ clubs (those who go unbeaten across the entire season) popping up every year. Defeats are a natural part of the sport, so never overvalue a favourite, even PSG or Man City.

Football betting odds
