It’s been a flawless Europa Conference League campaign so far for West Ham. David Moyes’ side sit atop Group B with three wins from three and can confirm qualification to the knockouts with another triumph over Anderlecht on Thursday. Their most recent bout, occurring in Brussels last week, saw the Hammers ran out 1-0 victors thanks to a Gianluca Scamacca precision strike 10 minutes from time.
That match-winning finish from the Italian ensured West Ham maintained their perfect start to this continental season. Wins over Silkeborg and FCSB have also been recorded to ensure they’ve consolidated first in a group that had banana-skin potential. Anderlecht currently sit in second and will be determined to put on a show this Thursday to avoid potentially dropping down the table with Silkeborg breathing down their necks.

West Ham v Anderlecht match stats
With the recent form and rise to prominence of Scamacca, Michail Antonio may be utilised more in the cups for the foreseeable future, as he was in Belgium last week. Moyes will likely give the Jamaica international another starting berth having kept him on the bench in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Fulham, in which he emerged from the sidelines to score the third. The 32-year-old is currently second, behind only Scamacca, as West Ham’s top scorer this campaign.
One man who really captured the imagination at Lotto Park last week was Flynn Downes. The summer signing from Swansea has been given scant chances to prove his worth in the Premier League, but he’s taken to the European circuit like a duck to water when handed a chance by Moyes. Billed as the obvious successor to Mark Noble, given his boyhood love for West Ham, there are distinct parallels in Downes’ game that resemble the former captain.
Able to turn on a sixpence and negotiate his way out of tight pockets of space, Downes has all the attributes of an elite tempo-setter. In fact, he has so far started nine sequences that have ended with a shot in the Conference League this season, more than any other player in the competition.

It was a tight affair in Brussels last week as West Ham ran out with a slender triumph. Scamacca bagged the pivotal goal from a delectable Lucas Paqueta pass, while Alphonse Areola earned his corn at the opposite end of the field after denying Fabio Silva from close range with a reflex save of uncanny proportions.
