This week, the talk around West Brom hasn’t been about their promotion hopes, rather the future of their manager. Carlos Corberan was favourite to replace Jesse Marsch as Leeds United manager but West Brom seem to have put an end to those rumours, with the Spaniard signing a new deal.

So attention can now return to the Championship, where West Brom sit in the final play-off spot, ahead of seventh-placed Blackburn Rovers on goal difference and having a game in hand over Watford above them. It’s been a spectacular turnaround for West Brom under Corberan, when they had been looking at a relegation battle with Steve Bruce at the helm earlier this season.
Birmingham, meanwhile, are struggling at the moment and go into this game down in 18th. Sitting seven points above the relegation zone, Birmingham are part of the group likely to be fighting relegation rather than battling for the play-offs, with some of the teams further up the table pulling away.
The Blues won in the league last time out, beating Swansea 4-3 in a thrilling match, to end a five-game losing streak in the Championship post-Christmas. Things off the pitch aren’t going too well either, with fans set to protest during this Midlands derby.

One man who could be susceptible to a booking is Hannibal Mejbri. The Manchester United loanee has been booked eight times in the Championship this season, with only four players receiving more yellow cards.

Birmingham have won their past two games against West Brom including the previous meeting this season. The Blues will be looking to do the league double over their West Midlands rivals for the first time since 1998/99, which was also the last time they won three in a row against the Baggies.
