Steve Clarke must rally the troops following Scotland’s disappointing defeat to Ukraine in their World Cup play-off last week, in which they fell to a 2-1 loss at Hampden Park. It’s a quick turnaround for this showdown against Armenia in their first Nations League match of 2022, so they must respond.

With Clarke’s men playing in that belated World Cup play-off against Ukraine, Group B1 has already got underway, and Armenia travel to Glasgow having already claimed the scalp of the Republic of Ireland last week, giving themselves an early lead in the table after they beat Stephen Kenny’s Boys in Green 1-0 on Saturday.

Scotland finished second in Group B2 during the previous instalment of the Nations League, missing out on promotion to League A by just two points, so Clarke will want to ensure his side have another bite at the cherry and move up to the elite division. His first job, though, will be to make sure their is no lingering dejection from last week’s World Cup heartache.

Scotland vs Armenia match stats

Che Adams has been a man entrusted by Clarke since making his international debut for Scotland last year, netting five goals in just 15 caps, and the Southampton man will certainly want to continue that streak as he looks to bounce back from his blank against Ukraine. The Saints sharp-shooter had more shots on target than any other Scottish player in Europe’s top five leagues across 2021/22 (24), finishing ahead of Liam Henderson of Empoli (17), Aston Villa’s John McGinn (16) and Bologna’s buccaneering full-back Aaron Hickey (13).
