Man Utd are certainly in a transition period under Erik ten Hag but, given the stature of the club, the Red Devils are still under pressure to perform. They are in a decent position in the Premier League, with five wins from their opening eight matches but there has also been a lot of focus on the three defeats, including a 6-3 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad.
The Red Devils lost their opening two Premier League matches under Ten Hag and it was a similar case in the Europa League, with a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad. However, unlike the Premier League that losing streak ended at one and Man Utd bounced back to beat Sheriff 2-0 and Omonia 3-2 last week.
Omonia aren’t a massive team in Cyprus and qualified for the Europa League as winners of the Cypriot Cup, entering the final round of qualifying where they faced Gent. Not expected to get through, Omonia beat the Belgians 2-0 in both legs of their tie to reach the group stage for just the second time in their history.
But Neil Lennon’s men haven’t had the best return. The Cypriot side are now without a point from their opening three matches, also losing 3-0 to Sheriff and 2-1 to Real Sociedad on top of their loss to Man Utd last week. Defeat here would see them out of the Europa League.

In the 2-1 win over Everton at the weekend Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal, though many thought that would have come against Omonia. The Portuguese forward had eight shots in Cyprus but did not find the net, his most attempts without scoring in a single European game since November 2019.
Man Utd have lost their last two home matches in Europe, beaten by Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, but they have never lost three in a row at Old Trafford and it doesn’t look likely that they will now. Omonia are winless in 17 away games in major European competitions and no Cypriot side has ever won away to and English team in Europe, with two draws and six defeats.
