The only unbeaten side in League A, the Netherlands started their group as they meant to go on by crushing neighbours Belgium 4-1 away. But it was not straightforward after that: Oranje came from 2-0 down to draw with Poland, while both wins against Wales were sealed in added time. Yet the Dutch always found a way and sealed passage to a second Nations League final appearance with a 1-0 defeat of Belgium in Amsterdam.

Very few gave Croatia much hope when they were humbled 3-0 at home by Austria in their opening Group A1 match. The mood wasn’t improved by a 1-1 draw with France in Split, but Zlatko Dalić’s men then showed they’re made of the right stuff with two victories against Denmark sandwiching a 1-0 win in France. Croatia subsequently held their nerve in Austria to run out 3-1 winners courtesy of a pair of vital goals in the last 21 minutes.

The Netherlands had failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their matches in 2022 until Remko Pasveer took over in goal and proved unbeatable in the final two games.
