After suffering a heavy 7-0 defeat to England in June, North Macedonia have it all to do if they are going to make it to Euro 2024. They currently sit second bottom of Group C, with just three points from their opening three games after they followed up a 1-0 win against bottom side Malta with back-to-back defeats against Ukraine and the aforementioned demolition by the Three Lions three months ago.

With the top two sides England and Ukraine facing off against each other in Poland on Saturday, it will be a good opportunity for both teams to close the gap on the top two, especially for Italy who are already 9 points behind leaders England having played two fewer matches. The Azzurri have one win and one loss from their two openers, having bounced back from their home defeat to England with a 2-0 away win against Malta.

However, Italy are now under new management after Roberto Mancini’s resignation led to the man that led Napoli to Serie A glory last season, Luciano Spalletti taking over. This will be the 64-year-old’s first match in charge of the national side and he will be looking to get off to the best possible start as he aims to guide them to Euro 2024 after their World Cup qualifying heartbreak last year.

Defender Visar Musliu missed the 7-0 demolition by England through suspension in North Macedonia’s last qualifier and should come straight back in. They will be without Valon Ethemi, Marjan Radeski and Darko Churliov through injury, while captain Stefan Ristovski has been left out of the squad after reported problems with the manager.

Luciano Spalletti has left out a host of experienced players for his first squad in charge of the national side, with Marco Verratti, Jorginho, Leonardo Bonucci and Gianluca Scamacca all being left at home. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario’s impressive start to the campaign has been rewarded with a call up, but don’t expect him to be selected in the starting XI ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma, while captain Ciro Immobile is set to be joined by Matteo Politano and Federico Chiesa in attack in a 4-3-3 set up.
