Andy FrancisBenjamin Sesko arrives with a full pre-season under his belt and has already shown he knows where the goal is since his move from Leipzig, and he lines up alongside Cunha and Mbeumo in a United attack packed with firepower against a Hull defence untested at this level. Lewie Coyle captains the promoted side and will be tasked with containing United’s wide threat all afternoon, a job that often comes with rash challenges and referee attention, and he’s no stranger to the book. Combining United’s most dangerous forward with Hull’s captain picking up a caution makes for a well-priced 6/1.
Andy FrancisManchester United finished third last season and have added further quality over the summer, giving Michael Carrick a squad capable of brushing aside newly promoted opposition. Hull return to the top flight for the first time since 2016-17 and, however loud the MKM Stadium gets, a back line untested at this level is likely to be exposed more than once by United’s attacking options. With Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo all in the side, a routine victory margin of two or more goals looks the realistic outcome, making the -1 handicap a smart way to back a professional away win at 20/21.
Andy FrancisThis fixture has a habit of delivering goals at both ends. Forest have won three of the last five meetings and Leeds two, but rarely with a clean sheet involved. Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White give Forest a cutting edge at home, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Joel Piroe carry enough threat to trouble a Forest defence that had a difficult 2025-26. Neither side looks watertight at the back, and with the City Ground crowd pushing the hosts on, an open, end-to-end contest with chances for both teams feels the likeliest shape, making 3.5 goals and BTTS a fair line at 11/4.
Andy FrancisEthan Ampadu sits at the base of Leeds’ midfield and does much of the side’s defensive work, a role that has seen him pick up bookings at a steady rate, rarely far from the referee’s notebook. Morgan Gibbs-White pulls the strings for Forest and is their most regular shooter from midfield, while Calvert-Lewin’s aerial presence and instinct for the box should see him get at least one effort on target as Leeds look to make an early mark on their trip to the City Ground. Combining a near-certain caution with two attacking outlets finding the target gives this 7/1 line real appeal.
Andy FrancisNeither side possesses a settled goal threat with Beto and Ndiaye still finding their feet as Everton’s front two and Mateta shouldering most of Palace’s attacking burden, so goals look at a premium in a game between two well-organised sides. Everton’s strong home form and head-to-head edge make them hard to beat, but Palace’s awkward, disciplined setup should keep it tight rather than one-sided, pointing towards a share of the spoils. Ismaila Sarr offers Palace’s clearest source of end product and looks a good bet to test the keeper more than once even in a low-scoring afternoon, backing this combination at 11/2.
Andy FrancisJefferson Lerma has long been one of the Premier League’s most combative midfielders, a reputation that followed him from Bournemouth to Palace and shows little sign of softening, and he’s rarely shy of a crunching challenge. Hayden Hackney arrives at Everton after a big-money move from Middlesbrough with a similar all-action, tackling-heavy game, and facing a tricky Palace midfield in only his second competitive outing for the club is exactly the sort of contest that draws a card. With two combative engine-room players going head-to-head, backing both to pick up bookings looks solid value at 14/1.
Anthony EadsonThe last time Leif Davis was in the Premier League with Ipswich, he was shown five yellow and one red card over the course of the campaign. Davis will be encouraged to get forward on the left side of the pitch for the hosts and he could be vulnerable, with Sunderland looking to exploit him on the counter.
Anthony EadsonSunderland finished seventh last season and bring the greater top-flight experience to Portman Road. At 13/8 they look too big a price against an Ipswich side that managed just one home win in their most recent top flight campaign in 2024/25.
Anthony EadsonBrentford are a stubborn, physical side at the Gtech and the market makes them narrow favourites. Tottenham have won recent meetings, but home advantage tilts this one towards the Bees. Keith Andrews has defied all expectations and I’m backing his side to go one step further and qualify for Europe this season.
Andy FrancisBournemouth won’t come to the Etihad simply to defend, and their front three of Marcus Tavernier, Rayan and Antoine Semenyo carry enough pace and quality to trouble City in transition, even against one of the league’s tightest defensive units. Rayan’s directness on the break gives him a genuine chance of testing the keeper, while Tavernier’s willingness to shoot from range should produce at least one effort on target. Semenyo remains Bournemouth’s most reliable outlet in the final third and has the confidence to get shots away regularly, making his 1.5 mark achievable even in a losing cause at 14/1.
Andy FrancisErling Haaland remains as reliable as ever in front of goal and should have no trouble finding the net against a Bournemouth defence that will spend long spells on the back foot at the Etihad. Bournemouth have shown they can hurt City in recent meetings, though, and with pace and confidence in their own attack they look capable of getting on the scoresheet too. Tyler Adams anchors Bournemouth’s midfield and will be central to breaking up City’s rhythm, a job that regularly earns him a place in the referee’s book. Combining a Haaland goal, both teams scoring and an Adams caution makes for a well-rounded 5/1.
Andy FrancisGeorginio Rutter arrived at Brighton for a club-record fee and has quickly become one of their most dangerous forward options, giving him a strong chance of adding to his tally against a Villa defence that will have its hands full at the Amex. Boubacar Kamara sits at the base of Villa’s midfield and regularly picks up bookings breaking up opposition play, a role he’ll need to lean on heavily here. John McGinn remains Villa’s captain and a persistent goal threat from midfield, rarely afraid to shoot from range. Combining all three markets makes this a well-stacked line at 14/1.
Andy FrancisBrighton’s home form at the Amex has been one of the division’s most reliable assets, and with Kaoru Mitoma’s guile and Georginio Rutter’s attacking threat, the hosts have more than enough quality to see off a Villa side even at their sharpest. Ollie Watkins remains a constant goal threat for the visitors, though, and Unai Emery’s side rarely go quietly, having won three of the last five meetings between these clubs. That combination of home comfort and two sides capable of scoring freely against each other points to goals at both ends, with Brighton’s edge enough to see them over the line at 11/4.
Andy FrancisAlexander Isak’s move away from St James’ Park dominated last summer, but he didn’t have the debut season at Anfield that he would’ve hoped for. Liverpool head into the season with genuine strength across the pitch, with Gakpo and Chiesa offering further support, and they arrive with the better recent record in this fixture. Newcastle will be roared on by a typically ferocious St James’ Park crowd, but Liverpool’s greater squad depth and Isak’s added motivation make backing both the win and the anytime scorer a smart combination at 7/4.
Andy FrancisAmar Dedic arrives at Newcastle with an aggressive, high-energy style at full-back and will be tested repeatedly by Liverpool’s wide threat, the kind of afternoon that often ends with a name in the book. Alexis Mac Allister sits at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield and is no stranger to a card himself when protecting possession or breaking up Newcastle’s counters. Virgil van Dijk remains a constant menace from set pieces and regularly gets shots away from corners and free-kicks, giving him every chance of clearing 1.5 shots on his own. Stack all three together and this looks a well-priced 28/1.
Andy FrancisCole Palmer remains Chelsea’s talisman and the clearest source of goals in a young, talented squad still searching for consistency, with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap offering further support around him. Fulham are always awkward at Craven Cottage and won the most recent meeting between these sides, but Chelsea’s overall depth and quality should tell over the course of ninety minutes even in a tricky away derby. Palmer has a habit of stepping up in the biggest games, and with Chelsea needing an early statement of intent this season, backing both the win and their star man to score looks the value play at 12/5.
Andy FrancisFulham have shown they can hurt Chelsea before, and with Rodrigo Muniz leading their line they carry enough of a threat to get on the scoresheet even against a talented Chelsea defence still finding its feet. Chelsea’s own attacking options give them every chance of scoring at the other end too. Moises Caicedo sits at the base of Chelsea’s midfield and regularly picks up bookings doing the side’s defensive work, while Harrison Reed anchors Fulham in a similar combative role and rarely shies away from a crunching tackle. Both teams finding the net plus two cautions makes this a well-stacked 16/1.

In-Play football tips
In-Play betting has become a phenomenon in recent years and given the popularity that it had with punters when it was first rolled out among apps and online football betting sites (having long been an option via telephone), it’s unsurprising to see that almost every firm now has In-Play functionality within their sportsbook offerings.
This type of wagering allows you to decide upon your bets dependent on the unfolding action, whether that’s a cup final between two European giants or a tussle at the bottom of the table in one of the lower leagues. For our tips, it’s difficult to post them on site due to the timing of matches, but you can follow us on Twitter for the best live tweets, stats, reactions and most importantly In-Play tips as the fixtures unfold.
Full-time results
The most popular bet in any league and with any sportsbook is betting on the full-time result. This is as simple as betting on which team you expect to win the game – or indeed on the draw if that’s the final outcome of the game that you’re expecting.
These are the bets we mostly tend to use in our accumulators too, combining four or more of our full-time result betting tips for bigger returns.
Correct score
Of course, you don’t just have to bet on the outcome of a particular game (results wise that is), you can also have a punt on the exact scoreline. From a 6-0 drubbing to a goalless stalemate, the option’s yours if you fancy your chances at predicting the correct score.
Both Teams to Score
Both teams to score bets are almost as popular as full-time result bets nowadays, given that it is a very simple market to bet on with shorter odds and thus they also prove particularly popular with accumulators and multiple backers.
You’re simply betting on both teams to find the net over the course of the 90 minutes with this bet and that can prove to be more of a popular bet than a match result bet as the hopes of it being successful can remain alive until the final kick of the match.
Over/Under Goals Bets
The over/under goals betting market allows punters to bet on whether both teams will score more or less of a specified number of goals in a game. The market is in intervals of 0.5 to ensure all bets are settled.
Example: The 2.5 goals margin is the most popular specified number of goals in this market. If both teams score a total of 2 goals or less the bet is lost. If both teams score a total of 3 goals or more, the bet is settled as a win.
Bookings
That Over/Under style of betting (as mentioned above) is worth remembering, as it is also the way that many other markets are offered including a number of total bookings in a match – be that in total or on a specific team. Everton have the most bookings in the Premier League this season for example (64), so you could bet on them to receive over a certain number of cards in a specific match, if you are so inclined.
There are other markets when it comes to betting on bookings in a game too and you can bet on which side will receive the most bookings, if there will be a red card in the match and with some bookmakers you can even bet on specific players to be shown a card during the match. Step forward Ashley Young, who is the current Premier League player with the highest amount of cards in their career so far with 79 to his name. You can find these kinds of odds on bookmakers such as Ladbrokes and Sky Bet.
Corners Taken
You can also bet on Under/Over markets in corners in 2022/2023 and also on the ‘Corners Match Result’ market, where you bet on one team to win more corners than the other during the match. Newcastle United topped the charts in the Premier League in 2022/23, whilst Bayern Munich were the team to watch in these markets over in the Bundesliga.
Goalscorer
There are plenty of ‘goalscorer‘ markets also available if you fancy a particular team or player to net that day. For player-specific odds, most bookmakers offer a ‘first goalscorer’, ‘anytime goalscorer’ or ‘last goalscorer’ market, which could be particularly useful if a player is facing a certain club. Harry Kane has scored 20 goals in 20 games against Leicester City during his career, so you may fancy his chances against The Foxes. Didier Drogba was also famously clinical against Arsenal, while Wayne Rooney loved playing against West Ham.
Evaluating Key Factors in Football Matches – Tips From Squawka Experts
Home advantage
There are so many factors to consider when placing a football bet, but one of the most important ones is ‘home advantage’. Clubs tend to perform better on familiar soil, just look at Liverpool‘s incredible run of 68 games unbeaten in the Premier League between 2017 and 2021. So before placing a bet, just be mindful of which club is at home, and whether the visiting team has a particularly good record on the road.
Head-to-head record
Another point to remember is head-to-head records between clubs. Some teams just have ill-luck and misfortune against other teams, for whatever reason, be it tactical, psychological or Lady Luck just doesn’t fancy them. West Ham, for example, are winless against Brighton since The Seagulls returned to the Premier League in 2017. That’s a staggering 12 games! Now that’s a bogey team and a half.
Team form
Football has always been a confidence sport, and when the chips are really down, clubs have a tendency to tailspin. So, it’s always worth checking the form of clubs heading into important match-ups. The league table can be deceptive at times. If a club had a particularly poor start to the season, but have won five on the trot under a new manager, the table may not reflect that upturn in fortune just yet. So always consider the last five games as a standard measuring yard.
Team news & injuries
Some players really do just make all the difference. It is always within your interest to check the team news before placing a bet. Some managers are coy in press conferences and bookies may not always be so quick to read between the lines, so make sure your injury information is up to date and from a reliable source. Clubs like Crystal Palace and Tottenham tend to perform way below their usual standards without Jean-Philippe Mateta and James Maddison respectively, so make sure the key men are fit, and if not, you may fancy the other team.
Unfamiliar leagues
Before placing a bet, you need to consider whether you’re actually familiar with what you’re betting on. It’s all well and good predicting PSG to ‘win to nil’ against Lens back in January, but you may have reconsidered that particular bet if you knew how good The Blood and Gold have been this season. Lens went on to win 3-1 in that Ligue 1 match, and it wasn’t as great a shock as many would have thought before the season. So, understand the league you’re betting on for the greatest chance of success.
Overvaluing favourites
The above pitfall falls into this category as well. Odds for ‘favourites’ will naturally be shorter, but we don’t exactly have ‘Invincible’ clubs (those who go unbeaten across the entire season) popping up every year. Defeats are a natural part of the sport, so never overvalue a favourite, even PSG or Man City.
What Is a Bet Builder?
Bet Builders are a fairly recent but very popular phenomenon where some bookmakers allow you the chance to customise your own bet slips on specific matches. In essence, they give punters the chance to create their own accumulators within a single match while using a variety of markets. Punters can personalise their bet slips by picking a number of selections on a specific event, with the odds then getting boosted by every addition. Betfair have a particularly good ‘Bet Builder’ option, where you can select any number of the markets we mentioned in the ‘How to bet on football’ section of this page, and create your own customisable accumulator. You could select the ‘correct score’, ‘first goalscorer’, ‘over x bookings’, ‘under x goals’ and ‘BTTS’ if you so fancy on a single game.
Weekend football tips & predictions – Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Although this season in particular there are more midweek matches than ever with domestic leagues looking to squeeze the fixtures in and the usual Champions League and Europa League tournaments to complete, the weekend is when the football schedule really comes alive and as always, we have you covered here at Squawka Bet.
Whether you’re looking for a tip on every match from each of the top leagues in Europe and the UK, an accumulator bet across a few different matches or our hand-picked tips from the biggest games in the Premier League and beyond, we’ve got your back with a range of different betting selections across every weekend.
Football betting odds
For the betting novices amongst you, the odds represent the price available on a bet, giving you the chance to work out how much your bet will return depending on your stake.
There are different types of odds available, but the ones that you will find on this site due to us being based in the UK are fractional odds. The chances of your bet coming in are calculated by these odds, with the number on the first side of the fraction being the returns you receive per bet. As such, odds of 10/1 would see £110 returned for every £10 staked – plus your £10 stake, meaning a total of £110 comes back to you.
The other two most popular forms of odds are American and Decimal and with most bookmakers you are able to select the odds to the style you find easiest to understand and operate with.
Football price boosts and enhanced odds
Most bookmakers will offer weekly or even daily price boosts, giving punters the chance to get even larger returns than the original odds on their bets. We’ll try to keep you up to date with those too when some come along that take our fancy. These go hand-in-hand with the options that plenty of bookmakers now have for customers to build and request their own bets combining different selections from the same games.
You will also find plenty of new customer offers and enhanced odds on this site. These can offer massively enhanced odds with smaller limits on stakes, but they can often be a great way to get your account up and running and some bookmakers will offer the chance to get free bets on eight different fixtures for example over the course of the weekend as a bonus upon opening your account, so keep checking back!
Finding Value in Football Betting
With data and statistics becoming such a big part of the modern game, it can be a tad overwhelming knowing which markets to bet on — and where the best value is. That’s why it’s always important to compare odds among different bookmakers, particularly for the more niche markets, such as corners, cards and so on. Our experts find some of the best football tips here, regularly comparing odds across bookies, but there is no harm in exploring the market yourself. To maximise your football betting predictions, we recommend for you to see what other offers are on the market. If you’re unsure about certain bookmakers, we have an up-to-date list here of the best ones in the UK, including their welcome offers for new customers.
