Burnley have failed to score in five of their last eight league games, but they have been water-tight at the back, having shipped just one goal in over 15 hours of football. Even some of Burnley’s fans have become bored with their style under Scott Parker and I don’t see things being any different here. 

Southampton have improved under Ivan Duric and managed a solid 2-1 win over Ipswich last weekend, but with eight of Burnley’s last nine seeing under 2.5 goals land, a repeat looks likely.

Under 1.5 Goals and Under 1.5 Cards (22/1 with Paddy Power)

FA Cup clashes in the early rounds can often yield low card counts at 22/1 I’ve had a poke on their being less than two cards brandished, along with under two goals being scored. Five of Burnley’s last nine have finished goalless and a snooze-fest could be on the cards on the south coast.

How both teams go into Southampton vs Burnley

Southampton, who lifted the FA Cup in 1976, approach Saturday’s match, having won eight of their last 10 home FA Cup games. They’ve been especially dominant recently, securing three consecutive victories by a combined score of 10-0. Additionally, the Saints have a perfect record against Burnley in previous FA Cup meetings, winning 2-1 away in the first round of 1908 and 4-3 at home in the third round of 2014.

Burnley are on track to cement their place as one of the most formidable defensive teams in recent English football history. They secured their 22nd clean sheet of the Championship season, and their ninth consecutive shutout with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Oxford City at home on Tuesday night.
