Rangers vs Tottenham prediction, odds, tips & team news
Rangers vs Tottenham
It’ll be a battle of Britain when Rangers host Tottenham Hotspur at Ibrox in the Europa League on Thursday 12th December at 8pm. Rangers go into this game ahead of Tottenham in the league, occupying the final automatic last 16 spot. This clash will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1.
Both Teams to Score & Over 3.5 Goals (6/4 with Sky Bet)
Spurs are the favourites in the match result market, but given their current form and the raucous atmosphere expected inside Ibrox, I’m not willing to side with the visitors. Instead, I’ve opted for both teams to find the net and over 3.5 goals to be scored.
The end-to-end chaotic nature of Tottenham’s matches often leads to high-scoring affairs, as was present on Sunday in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea. Ange Postecoglou’s side doesn’t seem to be able to control a game after going ahead, and I firmly believe that Rangers can get on the scoresheet and make this a thrilling contest.
Rangers have scored 12 goals in their five Europa League games this season, only ever netting more in a single group-stage campaign in major European competition in the 2020-21 Europa League (13). Three of Rangers’ last four Europa League matches have featured at least four goals, while Spurs’ most recent two have also seen this line cleared.
Hamza Igamane & James Maddison to Score Anytime (10/1 with Sky Bet)
Goals could well be on the menu in Scotland, and Hamza Igamane already has three in Europe for the Gers this term. Two of those came in the 4-1 win away at Nice at the end of November for the Moroccan, and he can find more joy against an injury-riddled Spurs defence.
James Maddison didn’t make the starting lineup against Chelsea last weekend, and he should feature from the off on Thursday. Maddson has five Premier Goals this season, more than Son Heung-min, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. At the current prices, he makes more appeal than those shorter than him in the market. Combining him and Igamane to score in this Europa League clash pays 10/1 via the Sky Bet build-a-bet feature.

How both teams go into Rangers vs Tottenham
Things are extremely close in the Europa League league phase with three matchweeks left to play. The top eight automatically qualify for the last 16, and Rangers currently occupy that final spot. They’ve taken 10 points from their opening five matches, with three wins and a draw alongside one loss. The defeat came against Lyon, but Rangers beat Malmo and FCSB either side. Philippe Clement’s side then drew with Olympiacos before a big 1-4 away win over Nice. It’s completely different from their Scottish Premiership suffering.
Tottenham have also taken 10 points from their opening five games, but they sit behind Rangers on goal difference. If the league were to end now, they’d have to go through the play-offs. The Europa League started off really well for Ange Postecoglou’s side, with three wins from their opening three games. Qarabag, Ferencvaros and Alkmaar were all dispatched. But Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in Istanbul before their 2-2 draw with Roma, dropping two points thanks to a late equaliser.
Rangers team news
Tom Lawrence is expected to miss this game through injury, but he shouldn’t be too far away from a return. Rabbi Matondo could have returned from his injury problems by the time Tottenham visit.
Tottenham team news
Spurs have no less than eight potential absentees for Thursday. Micky van de Ven came off against Chelsea, but his injury is not as bad as feared. Cristian Romero sustained a thigh injury in that clash that will keep him out. Ben Davies, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Vicario are all sidelined. Brennan Johnson is a doubt due to illness.
Rangers vs Tottenham head-to-head
Tottenham have won their only two previous games against Rangers. But both of those games came in the 1962-63 European Cup Winners’ Cup, which Tottenham did go on to win.
