Man City’s Double hopes face big challenge

At the start of the week, Man City were searching for a second consecutive Treble. But, having been knocked out of the Champions League, now it’s just a Double. However, Chelsea will be hoping to continue their season of frustrating the Citizens.

Although Chelsea have drawn their two games against Man City so far this season, they have made the FA Cup holders sweat at times. They fought in the 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge before only dropping points thanks to Rodri’s late strike at the Etihad. Chelsea are also in a decent run of form right now, unbeaten in their past eight games across all competitions since losing the EFL Cup final to Liverpool.

That run has seen them win five and draw three, most recently beating Everton 6-0 in the Premier League. Two of those victories also came in the FA Cup, though Chelsea laboured in their victories over Leeds and Leicester. For Chelsea, the FA Cup also provides their best chance of European football, with England likely to miss out on the extra Champions League spot — meaning only the top seven would secure European football if Man City or Man Utd win the FA Cup.

As mentioned, Man City come into this game nursing heartbreak following their Champions League quarter-final defeat to Real Madrid. There is also the fact that the game went all the way to penalties, adding minutes to the legs of Man City players that Pep Guardiola won’t have wanted. But Man City haven’t been beaten domestically since December and if they avoid defeat here they would make it 29 games unbeaten across all competitions, setting a new club record.

Man City vs Chelsea match tip

Over 3.5 goals @ 27/20 with 10bet

Chelsea have been a very fun team for the neutral to watch lately — providing you don’t mind a bit of chaos over tactical nous. Each of Chelsea’s past eight games across all competitions have seen a least four goals scored, including three 2-2 draws, two 3-2s, a 4-2, a 4-3 and a 6-0. It’s the same case in the FA Cup, as our Comparison Matrix shows below, with four of Chelsea’s five games seeing at least four goals scored — the only exception being the 0-0 draw in the fourth round against Aston Villa. Man City, meanwhile, have scored 14 goals across their four matches.

Even with their midweek heartbreak, Man City are odds-on favourites for this. You would back Man City too, as they have won six of their past eight games against Chelsea. However, be wary that each of the past two matches have finished level.
