Liverpool vs Chelsea prediction and stats: Back Caicedo to Carded in 18/1 punt

Liverpool vs Chelsea prediction and stats: Will Reds hold onto top spot?

The weekend’s big game takes place at Anfield as Liverpool host Chelsea in what should be a cracker in the Premier League. Our football betting expert Dean Woodward returns with his best bets including a 18/1 card double.

Two Liverpool vs Chelsea predictions

Dominik Szoboszlai and Moises Caicedo each over 0.5 fouls  Committed(10/11 with bet365)

Both teams will fancy their chances, and we could see some good midfield battles on Sunday evening.

Szoboszlai is set to start in the ten role where he has been utilised quite often this season, with Gravenberch and Mac Allister set to hold the midfield behind him. The Hungarian midfielder has been engaging in plenty of duels this season, resulting in him making at least one foul in eight of his nine appearances under Slot. He is also off the back of international duty, where he racked up a pair of fouls in each game. He will find himself in duels with Chelseas best foul magnets this season in Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer who have drawn twenty-three fouls between them across their last five matches!

Caicedo on the other hand is an absolute duel machine, hitting insane amounts of tackles and fouls. He himself has also registered similar strike rates as Szoboszlai, landing at least one foul in eight of his nine appearances this season. Eighteen fouls across his last nine matches in all competitions, he will have a huge job on his hands in that midfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Moises Caicedo to be booked (18/1 with bet365)

I think there’s a very high chance these two are involved in the thick of things on Sunday evening. I fancy them both to make fouls, so it’s hard not to nibble both to go into the book at just shy of 20/1.

Caicedo is now off the back of three straight yellow cards, getting booked in Chelsea’s last match against Forest, and picking up yellows in both of Colombia’s internationals during the break.

Szoboszlai isn’t the most likely candidate for a booking this game, but his booking record has seen a big increase since the 23/24 Premier League season. He managed to pick up yellow cards in two of Hungary’s five Euro2024 games, following that up with another two bookings this season in the Premier League.

How both teams go into Liverpool vs Chelsea

Anyone hoping for a Liverpool wobble after their shock 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest have been sorely disappointed. The Reds have been perfect since then, winning all six of their matches across all competitions, most recently battling to a 1-0 victory away at Crystal Palace. As a result, Arne Slot’s men sit top of the Premier League, a point clear of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be disappointed with their 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest last time out, even if they did come from behind. Even so, that means the Blues are now unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions in a run that’s helped them climb to fourth in the Premier League, just four points behind Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Chelsea team news

Liverpool team news

Liverpool will be without the services of Alisson, who joins Harvey Elliott on the sidelines. The fitness of Federico Chiesa remains uncertain and Slot may choose to rotate of one or two of his South American contingent, who have endured plenty of travelling over the International break.

Chelsea team news

Remarkably, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have both collected five yellow cards already this season and will miss the game through suspension.

Liverpool vs Chelsea head-to-head

Liverpool haven’t lost to Chelsea in any competition since March 2021, when Mason Mount handed the Blues a 1-0 victory at Anfield.
