How both teams go into Ipswich vs Newcastle

Ipswich’s return to the Premier League could be going a lot better. Kieran McKenna’s side have struggled in the top flight, with just 12 points so far. They’ve only won two games, beating Tottenham Hotspur before the November international break, but they did win vs Wolves last week and they haven’t lost a match by more than one since October 23rd when Everton visited Portman Road, so they are clearly competitive in the league.

Newcastle have had a strange season. They’ve won six, drawn five and lost five of their opening 16 games, with a goal difference of +2. The Magpies have beaten Arsenal and drawn with Liverpool, but also lost to West Ham United and drawn with Crystal Palace. It leaves Newcastle 12th, five points outside the top four, but only two points away from Man City in fifth, which demonstrates how congested the middle of the Premier League table is.

Ipswich team news

Axel Tuanzebe is out long-term, with Chiedozie Ogbene also out for the remainder of the season. George Hirst and Janoi Donacien are also set to miss out. Liam Delap is suspended for the match as well.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle will still be without their trio of centre-backs. Sven Botman and Emil Krafth are closer to returns but still won’t be back until the new year. Jamaal Lascelles is slightly further away from returning. Callum Wilson is injured again until February and Nick Pope will be absent.

Ipswich vs Newcastle head-to-head

This will be the first meeting between these two sides since April 2017. Ipswich won that game 3-1 in the Championship, ending a six-match losing streak.
