How both teams go into Everton vs Crystal Palace
Everton fans must be wondering what their club has done to upset the football gods. After securing Premier League safety last season, despite their points deductions, the Toffees looked to be in a decent position under Sean Dyche. But defensive injuries have been a big problem.
The Toffees started the season with four consecutive defeats, all damning in their own way. Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur had convincing wins over Everton without conceding. Then, in their next two games, Everton two 2-0 leads over Bournemouth and Aston Villa but still went on to lose. The defeat to Bournemouth was particularly damning as the Cherries scored all there of their goals from the 87th minute onward. Everton also saw a lead lost against Leicester City last time out, but this time they managed to hold on for a point.
There was a similar optimism surrounding Crystal Palace. The Eagles finished last season strongly under Oliver Glasner and there were high hopes of what they could achieve in his first full campaign. But they remain winless after five matches.
Palace opened the new campaign with consecutive defeats to Brentford and West Ham United, failing to score against the latter. The Eagles have now gone unbeaten in three, though, securing draws against Chelsea, Leicester and Manchester United.
Everton team news
Everton will hope to have Vitalii Mykolenko available for this game after illness, and there is also good news surrounding Jarrad Branthwaite. According to reports, the English centre-back could make his first start and appearance of the season after injury.
But the Toffees are set to remain without Armando Broja, Youssef Chermiti, Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye.
Crystal Palace team news
Crystal Palace are still waiting for news on whether Trevoh Chalobah can make his debut, having struggled with injury since his loan move from Chelsea. Matheus Franca is another who could be available this weekend, but it is still a doubt.
Cheick Doucoure, Chadi Riad and Rob Holding are all out though, with the latter recently left out of the Crystal Palace team photo.
Everton vs Crystal Palace head-to-head
Everton are unbeaten in their past seven games against Crystal Palace, winning four with three draws. This comes after the Toffees lost back-to-back meetings in 2021-22.
