Chelsea vs Morecambe prediction, odds, tips & team news
Chelsea will be hoping the FA Cup gives them a bit of a respite as they host Morecambe at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 11th January at 3pm. The Blues ended 2024 on a low point after a generally good start to life under Enzo Maresca. Now they’ll be looking to end a seven-year wait for FA Cup glory.
Joao Felix Anytime Scorer (19/20 with BetMGM)
Morecambe played Chelsea at this stage of the FA Cup four years ago, with the result finishing 4-0 to the Blues at Stamford Bridge. I feel a similar score could be on the cards on Saturday, and I’m backing Joao Felix to Score at what looks a sensational price at just under even money,
Enzo Maresca will make plenty of changes here, and his Europa Conference League selections this year give plenty of clues as to who will start against Morecable. Joao Felix is one of those, and although this game may be a far winning the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid, I still feel he’ll be hungry and keen to try and prove why he should be in the first XI for the club.
Felix has scored four goals in five Conference League appearances this season and with other firms such as Betfair pricing him at just 8/11 to find the net, the 19/20 with MGM looks well worth taking.
Christopher Nkunku Anytime Assist (21/10 with BetMGM)
Christopher Nkunku is another player who has performed well in Europe for Chelsea this season. The Frenchman is the top-scorer for the club in the competition for the club this season, but he is priced at just 8/13 to score against the Shrimps.
Nkunku makes much more appeal in the assist market, considering BetMGM is again best-priced at 21/10. After three assists in five European starts this season, and with plenty of goals expected, he looks a solid proposition to turn provider against Morecambe.

How both teams go into Chelsea vs Morecambe
Chelsea were FA Cup runners-up in three seasons between 2019-20 and 2021-22, and they’ll be hoping they can go one further under Maresca. Last season they made it to the semi-finals and werebeaten by Manchester City who also knocked them out in the third round the previous campaign. An FA Cup tie against a League Two side may be a welcome distraction from the league, with Chelsea now winless in four, dropping slightly down the table.
For Morecambe, this may also be a welcome distraction from the league. The Shrimps sit 23rd in the League Two table and are facing a potential relegation to the National League. Things are close in the relegation battle, but a positive result against Chelsea could boost Morecambe. Of course, there are no replays in the FA Cup now, so this game must finish on the day.
Chelsea team news
Chelsea’s injury problems may be easing up. Benoit Badiashile is injured and Wesley Fofana could still be out, but Reece James made his return to the bench recently. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended.
Morecambe team news
Stuart Moore has missed the past three games for Morecambe and is a doubt for this one. Paul Lewis has also been suffering with injuries of late. Lee Angol has been a long-term absentee.
Chelsea vs Morecambe head-to-head
This is just the second competitive match between Chelsea and Morecambe. The Blues beat Morecambe 4-0 in the third round of the FA Cup in 2021.
