How both teams go into Chelsea vs FC Copenhagen
Chelsea entered the Europa Conference League as tournament favourites, and the remain odds-on to lift the trophy at the halfway stage of the last 16. Enzo Maresca’s side are still perfect in the competition, winning all seven of their games so far. Win seven came against FC Copenhagen in the first leg, though it wasn’t an easy victory. The Blues endured a drab first half before second within minutes of the restart. They then went 0-2 up but couldn’t hold onto that advantage, conceding with just over 10 minutes to go. While the Blues did win, it’s not the lead Maresca will have wanted his side to take to Stamford Bridge.
FC Copenhagen will now travel to London with a bit more hope than they would have 0-2 down. The Danish side also lost the first leg of their knockout phase play-off tie, beaten 1-2 at home by Heidenheim. But, of course, FC Copenhagen advanced 4-3 on aggregate, winning the second leg 3-1 after extra-time time. And the Danish side caused Chelsea a few problems in the first leg, despite only having 0.45 Expected Goals (outscoring Chelsea’s 0.37).
Chelsea team news
Malo Gusto had to come off in the first leg with an injury, but Maresca believes he will return. Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke and Romeo Lavia are all injured. Wesley Fofana is not registered for the Europa Conference League.
FC Copenhagen team news
Marcos Lopez is suspended for this game, picking up his third yellow card of the competition late on in the first leg for dissent. Kevin Diks had to come off in the second half so will be a doubt. Lukas Lerarger, Andreas Cornelius, Nicolai Boileson, Roony Bardghji and Jordan Larsson are all out. Mohammed Elyounoussi could return from injury.
Chelsea vs FC Copenhagen head-to-head
Chelsea are unbeaten in their five games against FC Copenhagen. The Europa Conference League first leg victory was Chelsea’s third in this fixture, alongside two draws.
