Villa on the brink
Aston Villa suffered European heartbreak on Thursday, but they can quickly overcome that this weekend. If results go their way, Villa could enter this game already confirmed for a top-four finish and a return to the top table of European football since their 1982/83 run to the quarter-finals of the European Cup. At worst, Villa will need three points from their final two games to secure their spot in the Champions League.
Villa go into this game on three consecutive defeats across all competitions and four without victory. Of course, two of those defeats came home and away to Olympiacos in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League but sandwiched in between was a 1-0 loss to Brighton. Regardless of what happens here, many will still expect Villa to secure Champions League football, which has Unai Emery on the list of favourites to win Manager of the Season. At home, after three defeats in four in the league, Villa are unbeaten in four, with two wins and two draws.
Liverpool can still mathematically win the title as things stand, but nobody counts them among the race anymore, and they could be officially out of it by Monday. Instead, the Reds will focus on ending Jurgen Klopp’s reign on a high. They haven’t been doing too well lately, with just two wins from their past six league games, losing two and drawing two.
This run saw Liverpool drop out of the title race, starting with a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Reds have also drawn with West Ham while losing to Crystal Palace and Everton. But they did end a two-game winless streak last weekend with a 4-2 victory over Tottenham, which showed both the good and the bad sides of Liverpool, having comfortably led 4-0 before enduring a nervy finish.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool odds
Even though Aston Villa have been a generally difficult team to beat at Villa Park in the league this season, Liverpool are the odds-on favourites here. The head-to-head history between these two sides will play a massive part, as Liverpool have won 10 of their last 12 league games against Aston Villa. The Reds have also won more Premier League away games against Villa than they have against any other opponent, with 16.
