Arsenal vs Monaco

Arsenal host Monaco in the Champions League at the Emirates on Wednesday 11th December at 8pm. The Gunners will be hoping to strengthen their chances of finishing in the top eight, but they’re only ahead of opponents Monaco on goal difference. This game will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1.

William Saliba 1+ Shot (6/4 with Sky Bet)

Since the start of 2024, Arsenal have scored 20 goals from set pieces (excluding penalties) in the Premier League, the joint-most in a calendar year in the competition. The Gunners are deadly from corners in particular, and their latest success came against Fulham on Sunday when William Saliba popped up to make the scores 1-1.

Saliba has now scored in his last two matches for Arsenal and has let off five shots across his last eight games. If you need any more reassurance about just how effective Arteta’s side is, you could look at their Expected Goals (xG) figure against Fulham. Of the 2.00xG that Arsenal accrued in total, a whopping 1.70 came from set pieces, with just 0.30 coming from open play.

Declan Rice Anytime Assist (7/2 with Paddy Power)

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are the two men tasked with sending in the Arsenal corners, and their accuracy over the last 12 months or so has to be admired. Rice has three assists in his last seven appearances for Arsenal. He provided one in their most recent Champions League game in the 5-1 away thumping of Sporting Lisbon, and at 7/2, he looks a lovely prospect to add to his tally and continue the Arteta ambush from set pieces.

How both teams go into Arsenal vs Monaco

We have three matchweeks left in the 2024-25 Champions League league phase. And things are still extremely tight. The top eight automatically qualify for the last 16, while the next 16 have to go through the playoff rounds. Arsenal and Monaco currently sit seventh and eighth respectively, separated only by goal difference.

Arsenal have won three of their opening five games in the Champions League this season, with one draw and one defeat. After opening with a draw against Atalanta, Arsenal beat PSG and Shakhtar Donetsk, all without conceding. They then suffered defeat to Inter Milan, but bounced back with a 1-5 thrashing of Sporting CP last time out.

Monaco have also won three, drawn one and lost one of their opening five games. The French side went unbeaten in their first four matches, starting with a victory over Barcelona. They then drew with Dinamo Zagreb before beating Red Star Belgrade and Bologna. But the unbeaten start came to an end last time out, with Monaco losing 2-3 to Benfica.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal have issues in defence. Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabirel, Riccardo Califiori are all a doubt, while Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both confirmed absentees.

Monaco team news

Monaco will be without Wilfried Singo after he was sent off in their 3-2 defeat to Benfica last time out. Christian Mawissa is also suspended after racking up several bookings. Florian Balogun will miss out on a meeting with his old side, due to a shoulder injury.

Arsenal vs Monaco head-to-head

This will be just the third meeting between Arsenal and Monaco. Monaco knocked the Gunners out of the 2014-15 Champions League last 16 on away goals, after a 3-3 draw across the two legs.
