It hasn’t been the best start to England’s Nations League campaign with the loss to Hungary in their opening game still fresh in the memory. A 1-1 draw with Germany followed with a late penalty rescuing the point for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Italy enjoyed the same scoreline with Germany in their first game in the competition but secured a 2-1 win over Hungary in midweek.
The last meeting between these sides should be well remembered with the side clashing in the Euro 2021 final at Wembley last year. Italy triumphed on penalties, securing the trophy and England will be keen for a small measure of revenge.
The hosts have scored well recently, although this has been skewed slightly by the 10-0 win over minnows San Marino in November.
England vs Italy: Match Stats
Both teams to score has happened in the last five meetings between these two sides and that looks as though it could be the move to make here too. Both teams have struggled to keep clean sheets recently too, with just two in the last 10 games featuring either of the teams.
Raheem Sterling celebrated his 75th England cap in the game against Germany earlier this week and received plenty of praise from Gareth Southgate in the following days. He’ll be keen to repay that praise with a goal against Italy.
