Premier League predictions - gameweek 8: Will Liverpool end Enzo Maresca's away run?

Published: 21:00, 17 October 2024 | Updated: 22:51, 18 October 2024

The 2024-25 Premier League campaign is back from the October international break, with gameweek eight.

This weekend’s action is spread across three days, with the Premier League’s return starting as Tottenham Hotspur host West Ham United. It ends on Monday, with Crystal Palace facing Nottingham Forest.

Of course, the big game comes on Sunday. Arne Slot’s table-toppers Liverpool will look to get their place at the summit when they welcome Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea to Anfield.

We’ve looked at all 10 matches from gameweek eight and offered our predicted scores.

Tottenham vs West Ham

West Ham’s London-based start to the season continues. The Hammers haven’t played a league game outside of London yet, with this their fourth away game in the capital. They are unbeaten on the road in the league this season, with two draws and one win. And West Ham did take four points from Tottenham in the league last season.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 West Ham (12/1 with Tote Sportsbook)

Fulham vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa will be looking to keep their strong start going. Unai Emery’s men have taken 14 points from their opening seven games, though do go into this one off the back of two draws. The season has been going well for Fulham too, but history is against them. Villa have won their last four matches against Fulham, as well as six of the last seven meetings.

Prediction: Fulham 0-2 Aston Villa (13/1 with BetMGM)

Ipswich vs Everton

Another battle between two sides you’d expect to be in the relegation battle this season. These two sides have managed just one win between them in the league, with Everton beating Crystal Palace recently. But Ipswich Town have drawn four of their seven league games. Two of the games Ipswich have lost this season have come against Liverpool and Manchester City, which can be expected.

Prediction: Ipswich 1-1 Everton (11/2 with Sky Bet)

Southampton vs Leicester

Another potential early relegation battle, this one sees two of the promoted sides face off. Leicester City were the champions of the second tier and got their first win before the international break. It lifted them to six points from seven matches. Southampton, meanwhile, have taken just one point from their opening seven. Russell Martin’s side have the worst attack in the league, scoring four goals so far.

Prediction: Southampton 0-1 Leicester (10/1 with Paddy Power)

Newcastle vs Brighton

St James’ Park hasn’t been the place for goals in the Premier League this season. The three league matches at the stadium have seen just six goals scored. In a matchup between Newcastle United and Brighton — two sides level on 12 points — we may see another low-scoring affair. Three of the seven Premier League matches between these two sides at St James’ Park have finished level.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Brighton (15/2 with bet365)

Man United vs Brentford

Manchester United may have been grateful for the October international break. The Red Devils are winless in their past five games across all competitions, drawing four. Man United failed to score in three of those matches, including a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham. At the same time, Brentford have lost just one of their last four across all competitions.

Prediction: Man United 0-1 Brentford (12/1 with Coral)

Bournemouth vs Arsenal

Arsenal are one of two teams still unbeaten in the Premier League this season and they sit just one point off top spot. Before the international break, the Gunners secured back-to-back victories over struggling sides Leicester and Southampton. And now there’s another team in poor form. Bournemouth have now lost three of their last four games, after going unbeaten in their opening three. And the Cherries have failed to score in all three of the defeats.

Prediction: Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal (10/1 with CopyBet)

Wolves vs Man City

Man City are still unbeaten in the Premier League this season as they look to defend their crown once again. Pep Guardiola’s side have won five of their seven matches, with two draws. After back-to-back draws, Man City won their most recent game, beating Fulham before the international break. You’d expect their winning run to continue, facing a winless Wolves who also sit bottom of the table. Man City have scored at least three goals in six of their past eight league games against Wolves.

Prediction: Wolves 1-3 Man City (15/2 with Betfair)

Liverpool vs Chelsea

All eyes will be on the Liverpool goal for their game against Chelsea. The league leaders will be without Alisson through injury, so Caoimhin Kelleher is set to deputise. But the Irishman has a good record against Chelsea, with two clean sheets in three matches across all competitions. Chelsea will be looking to remain perfect on the road, though, in what has been a bright start to life under Enzo Maresca.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea (9/1 with Ladbrokes)

    Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace

The final game of the weekend will see Crystal Palace looking to get their first win of the season. The Eagles have lost four of their opening seven games and sit in the relegation zone. Nottingham Forest are up in 10th, having lost just once so far, while also beating Liverpool. But draws seem to be the story of the season. Forest have drawn four of their seven games, while Palace have managed three.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Crystal Palace (11/2 with William Hill)
