Where will Ipswich finish in the 2024-25 Premier League season? Odds, probable, transfers, best players and full squad

Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years. But it may be a quick visit.
This is the Tractor Boys’ sixth total season in the Premier League, which includes the first three of the competition. Their last relegation, in 2001-02, had come just one season after a fifth-placed finish which saw Ipswich qualify for the Uefa Cup.
But it’s looking like their relegation this time round could be immediate. Ipswich are in the relegation zone with 11 games left to play, five points from safety. Implied probably has Ipswich 90.91% likely to be relegated per Sky Bet‘s odds of 1/10. Opta’s probability is even greater, at 96.48% for Ipswich to go down.

Ipswich’s transfer business
Ipswich tried to build a squad capable of staying in the Premier League, making Omari Hutchinson’s loan move permanent and signing Liam Delap. Dara O’Shea, Jacob Greaves, Arijanet Muric, Sam Szmodics, Chiedozie Ogbene, Conor Townsend and Ben Johnson were other permanent arrivals. There were a handful of free and loan departures too, including goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky. More money was spent in January, with Jaden Philogene and Alex Palmer signed, while Ben Godfrey and Julio Enciso joined on loan.
Who are Ipswich’s most important players?
Ipswich’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Liam Delap
The new arrival in the summer, Liam Delap has shown that he can play at the top level. After scoring eight goals in 31 Championship games on loan at Hull City, Delap decided to permanently leave Manchester City, making his way to Portman Road.
So far this season, Delap has scored 10 goals for Ipswich, at least six more than any other player. He’s scored 38.46% of Ipswich’s goals this season, from 51 shots, 24 of which have been on target. Delap’s finishing has been positive too, posting 7.95 Expected Goals and 9.58 xG on Target. That’s a shot placement ratio of 1.2, with Delap improving his chances of scoring.
Ipswich’s primary playmaker: Leif Davis
As it was in the Championship, it is in the Premier League. Leif Davis created 125 chances for Ipswich in the Championship last season, more than any other player. While he isn’t top of the Premier League charts this season, Davis is top of Ipswich’s. The English left-back has created 48 chances so far this season, 25 more than any other player. That includes 11 big chances, again more than any other Ipswich player. Unfortunately, that has only translated to two assists, but there’s not much Davis can do there.
Ipswich’s card magnets & top tacklers: Sam Morsy
Now, Liam Delap does lead Ipswich for fouls (58) and yellow cards (nine), being a strong forward who likes to use his body. But there’s also a less bulldozing option in Ipswich’s midfield. Sam Morsy sits second for fouls and yellow cards among Ipswich’s players, with 38 and eight respectively. This is the man many expected to be at the top of the charts for both, even though it’s not really something to brag about.
Morsy does lead Ipswich for tackles, though, with 53 in total. That averages out to 2.41 per 90 minutes. The midfielder also ranks top for possessions won in the middle third (52) and third for possessions won in the defensive third (53) among Ipswich players.
Ipswich’s rising star: Omari Hutchinson
Believe it or not, Omari Hutchinson is only 21. He plays like a man 10 years his senior, while also mixing in the self confidence that can only come with youth. The Jamaican international had a good season on loan at Ipswich to help them earn promotion to the Premier League, directly involved in 15 goals. He’s been directly involved in five goals so far this season, still finding his feet in the top flight. But there have been moments of magic for Hutchinson, and the promise is definitely there.

Ipswich 2024-25 player ratings
- GK: Arijanet Muric – 46% – Muric is rated among the worst goalkeepers in the league this season per his Score, preventing -0.06 goals per 90 minutes and making five errors leading to goals.
- RB: Axel Tuanzebe – 56% – Tuanzebe has won 62.07% of his ground duels this season and made 1.39 interceptions per 90, but he lacks creatively.
- CB: Dara O’Shea – 58% – O’Shea has won 3.63 aerial per 90 this season and made 5.7 clearances, which rank him quite well. But those 3.63 aerial duels won are 59.72% of his aerial duels contested, which could be better.
- CB: Jacob Greaves – 53% – Greaves missed a chunk of the mid-season through injury, but has won 70.18% of his ground duels. He’s been part of a defence that has averaged just 0.12 clean sheets per 90.
- LB: Leif Davis – 56% – Davis has created 0.43 big chances per 90 this season and 0.15 xA. But he’s also won just 0.99 tackles per 90 and completed 1.18 passes into the final third.
- DM: Sam Morsy – 52% – Morsy has won 1.32 tackles per 90, despite making 2.41 per 90, while averaging 2.37 possessions won in the middle third.
- DM: Jens Cajuste – 40% – Cajuste has averaged just 0.92 tackles per 90 this season, allowing his partner to do most of that work. He’s also got an underwhelming retention rate of 83.38%.
- RW: Wes Burns – 33% – Burns has been ruled out for the season due to a knee injury, but in his 18 league appearances he provided just one assist with no goals. And the assist wasn’t marked as an intentional one, which also counts against him for his Score.
- AM: Omari Hutchinson – 45% – There have been moments for Hutchinson, but he has still only scored 0.13 goals and recorded 0.04 intentional assists per 90. He’s also completed 1.79 attempted take-ons.
- LW: Sam Szmodics – 49% – Szmodics has scored 0.36 goals per 90 this season, from 1.09 shots on target. But for playing on the wing, he isn’t creative enough.
- CF: Liam Delap – 63% – Liam Delap has averaged 0.44 goals per 90, from 0.35 non-penalty xGOT. He also boasts a shot placement ratio of 1.2.
McKenna started with a back three at Ipswich but has utilised the 4-2-3-1 for the past two years, carrying that into the Premier League. Leif Davis is the more attacking of the two full-backs, forming a nice triangle with the left central midfielder and left winger. Omari Hutchinson has also moved more into the middle, having featured on the wings in the Championship.
