World Cup 2026 Group G Odds: Fixtures, results and latest betting odds

Group G favourites Belgium underwhelmed in their 2026 World Cup opener, drawing 1-1 with Egypt on Monday night.

The Red Devils face remain odds-on favourites to finish top of their table, with the Pharaohs still around the 16/5 mark despite Monday’s stalemate.

Meanwhile, Middle Eastern challengers Iran drew 2-2 with plucky underdogs New Zealand in the early hours of Tuesday, at 2am UK time.

This leaves Iran at 12/1 odds to win Group G, while New Zealand are all the way back at 20/1, despite all four sides having one point each.

Belgium Group G odds

Currently ranked eighth in the world, Belgium entered as overwhelming favourites to top Group G. However, they suffered a minor setback on Monday night after fighting back from a goal behind to draw with Egypt.

Long gone are the days of the ‘Golden Generation’ for Belgium, with Belgium failing to capitalise on the breadth of world class players they had at their disposal during the mid 2010’s. They still possess some serious talent in their ranks in 2026 but they will need to realise their full potential if Belgium are to have a deep run in the tournament.

Despite turning 35 during the World Cup this summer, Kevin De Bruyne has proven to be invaluable to his nation, scoring six goals in eight games in their qualifying campaign. He was backed up by impressive performances from the like of Jeremy Doku (five goals) and Youri Tielemans (three goals) but the Napoli playmaker was the standout performer as Belgium topped Group J.

Whilst the Belgian attack is still firing, the defence is definitely not the imperious force it was 10 years ago. The likes of Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen have been replaced by Arthur Theate and Brandon Mechele, who lack the same quality as their predecessors. The form of Thibaut Courtois could prove to be pivotal, with the shotstopper still thought of as one of, if not the, best keeper in world football.

Egypt Group G odds

Egypt kicked off their campaign in North America this summer with a commendable score draw with Belgium.

Egypt were able to secure their place at the World Cup with relative ease, going unbeaten in Group A of the CAF qualifiers. They only dropped points in draws against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau, winning the other eight of their qualifiers and only conceding twice along the way.

Egypt are second favourites to win Group G but they don’t have much pedigree when it comes to making the knockout stages of the World Cup. They made the Round of 16 in 1934 but failed to match that in 1990 or 2018, their only other appearances at the biggest competition in international football.

Iran Group G odds

Iran fought hard in their opening game of the World Cup campaign, fighting from behind twice to secure their first point against New Zealand.

Iran have become a regular name when it comes to qualifying for the World Cup over the past 30 years, taking part in six of the last eight tournaments. They’ve not experienced much success, though, failing to make it out of the group stages in any of those appearances.

Their route to qualification was a fairly straight forward one, with Team Melli topping Group A in AFC qualification and finishing eight points clear of third placed, United Arab Emirates. They averaged just under two goals a game in qualifying and conceded at a rate of less than a goal a game in what proved to be a very impressive campaign.

New Zealand Group G odds

New Zealand were well worth their salt getting a 2-2 draw against Iran, dazzling with some incredibly tidy football at times and making them one to watch going forwards.

Perhaps the biggest beneficiaries of the expanded World Cup, New Zealand come from the OFC qualification group, the confederation that has gained a guaranteed place at the World Cup from now on. That pretty much assures New Zealand of an appearance at the competition in the next few years, with the other nations in the OFC being relative minnows in comparison.

The All Whites were able to qualify for the World Cup by winning all of their group games, whilst scoring 19 times in three matches and conceding just once, before defeating Fiji 7-0 in the semi-final of the third round and New Caledonia 3-0 in the final. This will be the third time New Zealand have appeared at the World Cup finals but they are still waiting for their first win.
