Brazil became the second team to reach the final 16 stage at this summer’s World Cup, after they overcame Japan 2-1 in Houston.
Their 2026 tournament didn’t get off to the best start as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the MetLife Stadium by a Morocco side with a point to prove in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
However, the Selecao were able to return to form with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Haiti and Scotland in their other two games in the group.
In the round of 32, it was far from plain sailing against Japan. Carlo Ancelotti’s men went one down in the first half before recovering to win 2-1 thanks to a late Gabriel Martinelli winner.

Having reached the quarter-finals in each of the last two World Cups, Brazil will look to give a better account of themselves this time around – but the competition has only grown stronger.
Their odds of around 14/1 suggest that they are very much considered to be among the contenders but they are not quite in the same group of favourites as France, Spain and England.
