Algeria have advanced to the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup after finishing third in Group J with four points.
Algeria opened their campaign with a difficult 3-0 defeat to reigning champions Argentina, a result that left them on the back foot early in the group but still with everything to play for. They responded in their second match with a narrow 2-1 victory over Jordan, a hard-earned win that kept their qualification hopes alive heading into the final round of fixtures.
Their decisive group game produced one of the matches of the tournament, as Algeria played out a dramatic 3-3 draw with Austria. In a frantic encounter that swung both ways, Algeria looked to have secured all three points with a stoppage-time goal, only for Austria to immediately respond and rescue a draw that ultimately saw both sides progress on four points.
With goal difference proving crucial, Algeria edged into third place and secured qualification as one of the best third-placed teams in Group J. It has been a turbulent but ultimately successful group stage for the North Africans, who now move into the knockout rounds where they will face Switzerland in the Round of 32.

After starting out as huge 750/1 outsiders to win the World Cup, bookmakers have slashed their price to around the 500/1 mark following their knockout qualification.
Switzerland will be a tough opponent for the Algerians, however, they possess enough individual quality to make the game competitive and could even progress through to the last 16.
