The 2026/27 Premier League season ticks along into Gameweek 9 with Manchester United travelling to Chelsea on Saturday and Liverpool facing reigning champions Arsenal on Sunday.
The Red Devils are in dire need of three points but they may be set to face a wounded animal after the Blues’ surprising home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could haul themselves to within three points of the Gunners if they manage to overcome the reigning champions at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Elsewhere Spurs themselves play host to struggling Crystal Palace. High-flying Brighton & Hove Albion will look to display their credentials as they travel to table-topping Man City.
Read on for the best Premier League stats you might see in Gameweek 9.
Stats you might see in Gameweek 9
Chelsea vs Man Utd
- Unless they win, Man Utd will have their worst start to a Premier League season after nine games. They have also gone eight without a clean sheet, a first in the Premier League era.
Michael Carrick‘s side have seven points from eight games (one win, four draws, three defeats), their lowest at this stage of any Premier League season. Their previous worst after nine games was 10 points in 2019/20, so even a win would only equal it.
United are yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Before this year they had always kept at least one in their first eight. The Red Devils are six without a win, and one more would equal the seven-game run of autumn 1992, their second-longest in the Premier League. The pressure is starting to mount on Michael Carrick after heavy three-goal defeats to Como and Bournemouth in their last two games.
Bournemouth vs Leeds
- Bournemouth could win three Premier League games in a row without conceding for the first time.
Marco Rose‘s side beat Sunderland 2-0 and won 3-0 at Old Trafford, and they’ve won four in a row in all competitions without conceding. In 10 Premier League seasons, Bournemouth have never strung together three clean-sheet wins. Leeds have conceded six so far, giving them the league’s second-best defence after Arsenal.
The man to watch for the Cherries here is Evanilson. The Brazilian has scored against Chelsea, Sunderland and Man Utd in his last three Premier League games. The goal against Sunderland was his 100th in senior football and the well-taken strike against United his 20th in the Premier League. Can he continue this rich vein of form against Daniel Farke‘s side?
Brentford vs Nottingham Forest
- Brentford need just three more goals to reach 300 scored in the Premier League.
Brentford have 297 goals in 198 Premier League games since promotion in 2021, and they have scored in each of their last 10. Saturday is their 199th Premier League game. Forest have won the last two meetings between the sides though, both by 2-0 scorelines. The Bees have racked up five draws so far – the joint-most in the league.
Morgan Gibbs-White could go within one appearance of the 200 mark in the Premier League if he features in this game. The Tricky Trees’ talisman has struggled for goal involvements of late, failing to score or make an assist in any of his last seven for club and country.
Coventry vs Sunderland
- Sunderland could go four Premier League games without scoring for the first time since 2017
Sunderland haven’t scored since the 5-3 defeat at Man City on 20th September. Since then Regis le Bris’ men have lost 2-0 to Brighton and 2-0 at Bournemouth, before that bore 0-0 draw with Leeds last time out.
The Black Cats’ last scoreless Premier League run that lasted this long was the seven-game run in their 2016/17 relegation season. They have six goals from 11.1 xG, the second-biggest gap in the league after Nottingham Forest, and 17 big chances missed. This is their first league meeting with the Sky Blues in over 25 years.
Hull vs Ipswich
- Ipswich can add to the league’s best comeback record in the first ever Premier League meeting between these clubs.
Hull City and Ipswich Town have never been in the Premier League in the same season, so this is a first meeting between the clubs in the Premier League. The Tractor Boys have won seven points from losing positions, the most in the division, and four of their 12 goals have come from substitutes, also a league high.
The Tigers on the other hand have gone six league games without a win and average 32.7% possession, the lowest in the league. The better news is that they are yet to lose at home this season and indeed you have to go back to a 1-3 defeat to Millwall in the Championship back in March to find their last competitive defeat at the MKM Stadium.
Man City vs Brighton
- Erling Haaland can score in eight straight Premier League games for the first time. That would also be a new Man City club record.
Haaland has scored in each of City’s last seven league games, nine goals in all, after a blank against Bournemouth on the opening day. That equals his best run (also seven, in 2022/23), and seven is the Man City Premier League record he already shares with Sergio Aguero. Jamie Vardy holds the Premier League record of 11 (2015), ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s 10 (2003).
Brighton have nine Premier League visits to the Etihad behind them – but they are yet to record a victory, managing two draws and falling to seven defeats. However, City are winless in their last four league meetings with Brighton (two draws, two defeats). The Seagulls have scored 23 goals – the most in the league at this stage – and their goals are 7.9 above their Expected Goals (xG), the biggest overperformance in the division.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace
- Crystal Palace could win a third consecutive Premier League game at Tottenham for the first time
Palace have won only three Premier League games at Spurs: November 1997, 2-0 in May 2025 and 3-1 in March. That gives them the opportunity to create history with a third consecutive win at the stadium on Saturday evening. However, Tottenham have won their last two (3-1 against Coventry, 2-0 at Chelsea) and are unbeaten in three.
Palace have conceded 19 goals, the most in the division. And it isn’t looking much brighter at the opposite end. Last season’s top league goalscorer Jean-Philippe Mateta is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this season while Ismaila Sarr – their top scorer in all competitions last term – is yet to get off the mark for the campaign.
Aston Villa vs Fulham
- Fulham can win at Villa Park for only the second time in 19 Premier League visits
Fulham finally ended their long-running winless away streak last week, but can they end another hoodoo this time around? The Cottagers haven’t won at Villa Park in the Premier League in 12 years, with their record there reading one win, five draws and 12 defeats.
Villa have won all five home Premier League meetings with the London club since the 2016/17 campaign. Both sides have won their last two, with Villa beating Newcastle and Man City. Nicolas Jackson scored a brace in that win over the Cityzens last time out – another two here would take him to 30 Premier League goals.
Liverpool vs Arsenal
- Arsenal can win at Anfield for the first time in more than 14 years
Another hoodoo that could be broken this weekend is Arsenal’s Anfield nightmare. The Gunners’ last Premier League win at Anfield was 2-0 on 2nd September 2012. Since then they have five draws and eight defeats in 13 visits. Mikel Arteta‘s men are level on 21 points with Man City at the top, but will need to respond well after a humiliating EFL Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town in midweek.
Gabriel headed in his 21st Premier League goal against Everton, on his 200th Premier League appearance. No centre-back has scored more Premier League goals than the Brazilian since his debut in September 2020 – Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is next with 18. One more goal would take him level with Laurent Koscielny as Arsenal’s highest-scoring defender in the Premier League.
Newcastle vs Everton
- Everton can win three straight Premier League games at St James’ Park for the first time
Everton won 1-0 at St James’ Park in May 2025 and 3-2 in February of this year. Their Premier League record at on Tyneside reads 10 wins, five draws and 16 defeats, and they have never won three visits in a row since the inception of the league in 1992. That victory in February is also their last away league win (nine since).
David Moyes takes charge of his 760th Premier League game here. That puts him third on the all-time list behind Arsene Wenger (828) and Sir Alex Ferguson (810).
