Uruguay’s chances of progressing to the knock-out stages of the 2026 World Cup hang in the balance after two unexpected draws in their opening two games.
Uruguay were the first ever winners of the World Cup, winning the 1930 tournament and they backed this up with another victory in 1950. Things haven’t been as successful in the years since, though, with a third place playoff place in 2010 being their best finish since.
And it doesn’t look like the long wait to lift the trophy is going to end this year either. Draws with relative minnows Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde leave Celeste needing to take something from pre-tournament favourites Spain in their third and final group game.
Uruguay odds to win the World Cup
Uruguay fell short of expectations in 2022, being dumped out in the group stage after disappointing results against Portugal and South Korea – and they could be set for a similarly early exit here.
Uruguay were priced at around 80/1 pre-tournament, meaning they weren’t viewed as one of the favourites.
Now however, those two draws against perceivably weaker opposition have dented their hopes. Odds of around 150/1 are now available on Marcelo Bielsa’s men to lift the trophy.
Uruguay odds to win Group H
Uruguay’s group is a strange one with Spain being the clear favourites to claim victory. However, a win over la Roja in the final game would still secure top spot for Uruguay bizarrely – unless Cape Verde win with a higher margin against Saudi Arabia.
Uruguay can be found at odds of about 13/2 to beat Spain and win Group H.
