Portugal will be looking to take the next step towards World Cup glory when they arrive in North America this summer.
Seleção das Quinas came through their UEFA Qualifying group without much worry, topping Group F with 13 points from a possible 18. They’ll be hoping to make their first World Cup final and become the ninth nation to lift the famous trophy.
It was a below-par start to the tournament for Roberto Martinez and his side though. Despite taking an early lead against DR Congo in Houston, they were eventually held to a draw by the African side playing their first World Cup match in over 50 years.
There’s now work to do for Ronaldo and company with Colombia and Uzbekistan still to come in Group K.
Portugal odds to win the World Cup
Portugal have never reached the World Cup final before, with a third place finish in 1966 being their best tournament to date. Heading into the 2026 edition of the competition, Portugal are priced at around 9/1, with their odds slowly shortening ahead of the tournament and that draw with DR Congo not affecting the price too much.
Martinez certainly can’t blame any failure on not having talent at his disposal, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes being potential match-winners. However, there have been some doubts cast over their ability to win at the deeper end of the competition that they will have to dispel to go all the way.
Portugal odds to win Group K
Drawn alongside Colombia, Uzbekistan and DR Congo, it would be almost unthinkable for Portugal to not progress from Group K.
They’re still the heavy favourites to win their group despite the draw with DR Congo and that’s reflected in the odds. Anything but winning the group would represent a massive isappointment for Portugal.
Portugal World Cup top goalscorer odds
Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite Portuguese player to be named top scorer this summer. However, after a goalless start against DR Congo, while Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland all scored multiple goals in their opening matches.
He’s scored eight goals at World Cup finals over the years, with 2018 being his most prolific year, with four goals scored.
He’s backed up in the market by Bruno Fernandes, Pedro Neto and Rafael Leao.
