Argentina have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup after beating Switzerland in extra time.
It was a near-perfect group stage for the reigning contenders, who not only topped Group J but did so while conceding just once across their three matches. With momentum firmly on their side, Argentina entered into their Round of 32 match with Cape Verde but they were taken all the way by the tiny island nation, with Argentina needing extra time to overcome their much smaller opponents by an eventual 3-2 scoreline.
They survived another scare in the round of 16 and needed to come from two goals down to beat Egypt 3-2 with a dramatic comeback. They were then taken to extra time by Switzerland in the quarter-finals before goals by Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez helped set up a last-four encounter with bitter rivals England.
Argentina odds to win the World Cup
