Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions have advanced to the quarter finals at the 2026 World Cup after a thrilling win over co-hosts Mexico.
Jude Bellingham’s lightning-quick first-half brace set England on their way to a 3-2 victory over Mexico. Harry Kane chipped in by scoring from the spot – though he gave away a penalty of his own shortly after.
Dramatic scripts have been somewhat of a pattern in the knockout stages. The round of 32 win wasn’t the easiest, with the No.9 having to save the Three Lions who were trailing until the 75th minute.
It’s a star-studded squad at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal, and as a former Champions League winner, he brings more pedigree to the role than Southgate — but can he translate that to the international stage and end 60 years of hurt for England this summer?
England odds to win the World Cup
England’s last few performances have not given the bookmakers too much faith in their chances of winning the tournament. They’ve now drifted slightly out from 13/2 at the start of the knockout stages to 9/1 after beating Mexico.
However, the bookmakers clearly feel England have a strong chance and they remain fourth favourites to win the competition. France are now big favourites, while Argentina have shortened dramatically to 9/2.
England have been among the favourites to win the last handful of international tournaments they’ve competed in. Although they haven’t managed to add any silverware to the cabinet, they have come close on a handful of occasions.
Last time out at Euro 2024, it was Spain that proved too strong in the final, running out 2-1 winners.

England World Cup top goalscorer odds
Unsurprisingly Harry Kane is among the favourites to win the World Cup Golden Boot this summer. There are plenty of other players in this squad with the potential to challenge the Bayern Munich star.
Kane’s odds shortened after his brace against Croatia, but the Englishman’s odds sit at 12/1 after scoring in each of his last three games, against Panama, DR Congo and Mexico.
