Five things you might have missed from the Premier League 3pms as Darwin Nunez saves Liverpool’s blushes

The 2024-25 Premier League continues to roll along with gameweek 22 this weekend.
The midweek Premier League action added some excitement at the top of the table, and three of the top four were in action on Saturday. Liverpool travelled to Brentford, Arsenal hosted Aston Villa and Newcastle United took on Bournemouth.
Newcastle’s game against the Cherries was the opener for the weekend, with Arsenal vs Aston Villa closed out Saturday. Liverpool were among the 3pms, with three in total. When games aren’t on TV in the UK, it can be hard to follow the action. The same can go for the early kick-off, if you’ve had a late Friday night.
So we’ve rounded up the stats and stories from the first four games of this Saturday’s Premier League action for you below.
Kluivert haunts St James’ Park
There was a time where Kluivert was a name on the black-and-white shirt of Newcastle. But that time wasn’t anything to write home about. Now, it’s a name some Newcastle fans may hate.
That’s because Justin Kluivert scored a hat-trick for Bournemouth in their 1-4 win at St James’ Park. That’s three times as many goals as his dad Patrick managed to score at the stadium during his brief stint with Newcastle.
Newcastle should have known it was coming, with Kluivert particularly lethal on the road this season. The Dutchman has scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, nine of which have come away from home. Only Mohamed Salah (11) has scored more Premier League goals away from home this season than Kluivert.
Justin Kluivert is the fourth Dutchman after Ruud van Nistelrooy (5), Robin van Persie (5) and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (4) to score multiple hat-tricks in the competition.

Kluivert is just the fourth Dutchman to score multiple Premier League hat-tricks, joining Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. He is also just the seventh player to score multiple hat-tricks away from home in a single Premier League season. And all three goals were superb, including a rocket to make it 1-3.
The win extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 games, the longest in the club’s history.
Eddie Howe’s interesting streak
While Andoni Iraola will be celebrating, Eddie Howe will just be thankful this fixture is done for another season.
Newcastle went into the game on a run of nine consecutive victories across all competitions. They’d never won 10 in a row, so history was on the horizon. But Howe’s former side came back to bite him.
Interestingly, Howe has been in charge of all 14 Premier League meetings between Newcastle and Bournemouth. But he’s won just two of those games, drawing six and being on the losing side six times. Howe is also yet to beat Bournemouth as Newcastle manager, with four draws and two defeats.
Take a bow, Andoni Iraola. 👏
He is the first ever Bournemouth manager to go 10 Premier League games unbeaten in charge of the club.

Darwin Nunez saves Liverpool’s blushes
Liverpool took 35 shots without scoring against Brentford on Saturday afternoon. It looked like the Reds were on their way to more dropped points, having looked so comfortable in the Premier League title race. Three draws in a row, and a potential for Arsenal to close the gap even more.
But after 37 shots, Liverpool were 0-2 up. Darwin Nunez was the hero for the Reds, scoring twice in injury-time to take all three points.
Liverpool are the first side to have 20+ shots in four consecutive Premier League away games since Manchester City in November 2014.

The Uruguayan has been frustrating to watch for Liverpool fans this season, really struggling in front of goal. He’s once again seen his future thrown into doubt. But that won’t matter at the moment. And he has been reliable late on, with no player scoring more Premier League winning goals in the 80th minute or later since the start of last season than Nunez’s three.
It means Liverpool have now scored 11 goals in the last 15 minutes of Premier League matches this season, with only Bournemouth (14) and Fulham (12) netting more.
The Reds have also now had 20+ shots in each of their past four Premier League away games, the first team to achieve such a feat since Manchester City in November 2014. Their 37 shots was the most of any team in a single Premier League game this season. And it’s the most in an away game since at least 2016-17, with the previous best being 31.

Crystal Palace ruthless on the road
Crystal Palace are becoming quite a tough team to play on the road this season. They weren’t at the start of the campaign, with the Eagles losing three of their first four away league games.
But Palace are now unbeaten in their past seven away Premier League games, their best-ever run in the top-flight. That run has consisted of four wins and three draws, with West Ham United joining Ipswich Town, Brighton and Leicester City in losing to Palace at home this season.

Victory wasn’t a guarantee for Palace, who had won just one of their previous 22 away London derby matches in the Premier League. And they were winless in 13 since a 1-2 win at West Ham in November 2022.
But Palace’s defence was once again on top form away from home. They restricted West Ham to just seven shots on the afternoon, with none hitting the target.
Believe it or not, Palace have the joint-best away defence in the Premier League this season, conceding just 11 goals on the road. It’s a title they hold alongside Tottenham Hotspur.
Can’t stop Fulham scoring
Fulham are on a bit of a run in front of goal in the Premier League. The Cottagers have scored 34 goals in the league this season, and half of those (17) have come since the start of December. In that run, Fulham have scored at least two goals in seven of their 10 matches. Tottenham, Arsenal and Southampton are the only sides to have restricted Fulham to no more than one goal. Southampton kept a clean sheet too! They had only won one of the previous four, though that was a big 1-2 away victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The two goals against Leicester came in the second half through Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore, the latter netting his first league goal since August.
