Where will Brighton finish in the 2024/25 Premier League? Predictions, odds, transfers, best players and squad
Brighton have made a strong start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign after a disappointing end to last season.
Much was expected of the Seagulls after a shock sixth-place finish in 2022/23, sealing Europa League football in the process. And things started well for Roberto De Zerbi as Brighton won five of their opening six games. However, from there, the Italian could only pick up another seven victories from 32, with Brighton sliding all the way down to 11th after a particularly poor run of just six points from their last 10 matches.

Of course, De Zerbi has now departed, replaced by German coach Fabian Hürzeler, whose reputation is high after helping St. Pauli win the 2. Bundesliga title. But can he return Brighton to European contenders?
Brighton are obviously not expected to win the Premier League and are currently priced at 150/1 by BetMGM to do that in 2024/25, the implied probability of this being just 1%. However, they surely have a squad capable of battling in the top half again.

Latest Brighton odds to win the 2024/25 Premier League
As mentioned, Brighton aren’t exactly preparing for a title charge. However, they have decent odds of pushing for the top six, while they’re given a probability as low as 4.8% to be relegated from the Premier League this season. In fact, the Seagulls are currently sixth with just one defeat from seven games so far.
Brighton’s summer transfer window business so far
Brighton transfers in
Brighton spent big this summer, bringing Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Brajan Gruda, Ferdi Kadioglu, Matt O’Riley and Ibrahim Osman on board, all for fees in excess of £15m. Malick Yalcouye also signed, while Amario Cozier-Duberry joined from Arsenal on a free transfer.
Brighton transfers out
The Seagulls made sales to offset some of that spending, with Deniz Undav, Billy Gilmour and Pascal Groß among those sold.
Who are Brighton’s most important players?
Brighton’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Joao Pedro
Despite being limited to just 19 starts and 2,046 minutes through injury, Joao Pedro still managed a very respectable nine Premier League goals last season. In fact, he probably should have had more, posting just under 12 xG. Perhaps that can be put down somewhat to a lack of sharpness due to fitness disruptions.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian scored three more goals than any other Brighton player last season. If the Seagulls can keep him and Kaoru Mitoma fit for the full campaign, they’ll stand a much better chance of competing for European places.
Danny Welbeck is Brighton’s current top scorer on four goals but has proven over the years he isn’t a consistent finisher, and Pedro is only two goals behind.
Brighton’s primary playmaker: Kaoru Mitoma
A new era awaits Brighton as Pascal Groß returns to his homeland this summer. He was in top form last term, with only Cole Palmer (11) and Ollie Watkins (13) providing more assists in the Premier League last season than him, who set up ten goals from 103 chances created. The German has long been one of Brighton’s most potent creative forces; the Seagulls must now start looking for other solutions. Kaoru Mitoma, who made only 19 league appearances due to an injury-plagued campaign, was Brighton’s second-best creator with four assists. He also created six big chances, five fewer than Groß.
Mitoma is already Brighton’s assist leader this season with two.
Brighton’s card magnet & top tackler: Joel Veltman
Joel Veltman has already made 26 tackles in six Premier League appearances this season, at least six more than any other player. He’s also committed a joint-team-high eight fouls, shutting down the opposition with his unique brand of robust defending.
The Netherlands international, thus far, managed to walk the fine line between aggression and discipline, picking up just one yellow card. But with those sorts of numbers he’s posting, you feel like it’s only a matter of time until referees start to punish him.
Brighton’s rising star: Evan Ferguson
Evan Ferguson’s hat-trick against Newcastle last season will live long in the memory, especially as it took him to four goals in his first four appearances of the season. However, the Irish teenager managed just two more goals throughout the rest of the campaign and failed to find the net in any of his last 21 outings across all competitions.
More consistency is needed if Ferguson is to be a true Premier League star but the early signs are good. It’ll be interesting to see if he can kick on under the guidance of Hürzeler.

Brighton 2024/25 player ratings*
- GK: Bart Verbruggen – 44% – Only Ederson (43%) has performed lower on the Squawka Score than Verbruggen among goalkeepers. His massive error against Chelsea and poor showing vs Spurs don’t help.
- RB: Joel Veltman – 64% – Veltman has been a tackling machine for the Seagulls so far this season but has limited attacking capabilities and is liable to commit a lot of fouls.
- CB: Jan Paul van Hecke – 79% – No CB has a higher Score so far than Van Hecke, who even outperforms compatriot Virgil van Dijk (76%). The 24-year-old’s success has been founded upon superb ball-playing skills.
- CB: Lewis Dunk – 64% – While Van Hecke has provided the craft, Dunk has been the steady defensive presence, dominating on the ground and in the air.
- LB: Jack Hinshelwood – 59% – A fairly low Score, but Hinshelwood is still only 19 years old and is showing serious talent. Could he and Lewis Hall fight for England’s left-back spot for years to come?
- CM: James Milner – 61% – At 38 years old, Milner is still going strong. He’s actually posting some surprisingly good stats, too, including a 100% take-on success rate and 0.52 shots on target per 90.
- CM: Carlos Baleba – 62% – Baleba needed an adjustment period but is starting to look like a genuine force in the Premier League. Currently averaging 2.13 interceptions that retained possession per 90.
- AM: Joao Pedro – 76% – Cole Palmer, Matheus Cunha and Kevin De Bruyne are the only attacking midfielder with a higher Score than Pedro, who has scored twice in 281 minutes.
- RW: Yankuba Minteh – 63% – Minteh has terrifying pace and has used it to average 1.99 successful take-ons per 90. Still needs to improve his final ball.
- CF: Danny Welbeck – 72% – Has four goals to his name already, rolling back the years with some supremely effective attacking performances.
- LW: Kaoru Mitoma – 57% – Has a goal and two assists in what has been a steady start, but he’s capable of much more.
Brighton mostly fielded 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations under De Zerbi but new boss Hürzeler has enjoyed huge success with a 3-4-3 during his short managerial career so far. Up to now, however, the German has chosen to stick with what Brighton know, with the likes of Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck causing havoc in attack.

How do Squawka player ratings work?*
Squawka’s new player rating system is completely stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.
Using extensive research and our expertise, we’ve tailored each score to the player’s position. For example, forwards’ scores are based on metrics such as shots on target, touches in the opposition box and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes and so on.
