The 2026/27 Premier League season has reached Gameweek 8, and there’s one game dominating the spotlight.
Tottenham Hotspur finally got their first win of the season on Monday, beating Coventry City. They now travel across London to face rivals Chelsea, who will be hoping to halt the winning streak at one. But the weekend’s action starts on Friday night, with Ipswich Town hosting Nottingham Forest.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa welcome Manchester City to Villa Park and Arsenal host Everton. The weekend comes to a close with five games on Sunday, including Liverpool against Brighton and Hove Albion, and Sunderland hosting Leeds United.
Read on for the best Premier League stats you might see in Gameweek 8.
Stats you might see in Gameweek 8
Ipswich vs Nottingham Forest
- Nottingham Forest could score in 14 consecutive Premier League away games.
Nottingham Forest are the worst Expected Goals underperformers in the Premier League this season. The Tricky Trees have scored just five goals from their 11.31 xG so far, ranking bottom of the xG table. However, all five goals have come away from the City Ground this season. And Forest do seem to thrive away from home right now.
Forest have scored in each of their past 13 Premier League away games, already a club-record run. The streak started on 3rd January with a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa, Forest’s first away game of the year. During this run, Forest have scored at the Etihad Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and Anfield — as well as another goal at Villa Park this season. Oliver Glasner‘s side may feel optimistic of continuing that streak this weekend, with Ipswich not keeping a Premier League clean sheet since December 2024.
Aston Villa vs Man City
- Aston Villa could win four consecutive home Premier League games against Man City for the first time.
All eyes will be on Man City this weekend. The Citizens are still perfect in the Premier League, winning each of their seven games so far. Only two teams in Premier League history have started a season with eight consecutive wins — Chelsea in 2005/06 and Liverpool in 2019/20. Both teams went on to win the Premier League title that season.
However, Aston Villa will fancy their chances of ending Man City’s streak at seven. The Villans have made Villa Park a fortress under Unai Emery and Man City in particular have struggled. Aston Villa are unbeaten in their past four games against Man City at Villa Park, winning each of the past three. That’s already their best such run in the Premier League era. All three wins have been narrow, with a pair of 1-0 victories either side of a 2-1 win. Matty Cash scored the only goal when these sides met at Villa Park last season.
Coventry vs Fulham
- Fulham are looking to end an eight-game Premier League winless run away from home.
Alvaro Arbeloa finally got his first league win as Fulham manager, and now there’s another drought to break. The Cottagers haven’t won away from home in the league since February, when they beat Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light. Fulham have drawn four and lost four of the eight games since, alternating results. It hasn’t been the easiest of runs, with two trips to Anfield and a visit to the Emirates Stadium. But there have been winnable games too, including a game against already-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
So far this season, Fulham have lost two and drawn one of their three away games. Their only point came with a goalless draw against Liverpool, also losing 1-0 to Sunderland and 2-1 to Ipswich. They travel to face Coventry City, who only recently got their first home league win of the season. But the Sky Blues also fell to defeat to Tottenham on Monday, after two consecutive victories. Interestingly, this will be the first ever Premier League game between these two sides.
Arsenal vs Everton
- Everton are seeking just a third Premier League away win against Arsenal.
Arsenal’s solid title defence continued last weekend with a sixth win from seven. Although they laboured to victory over Nottingham Forest, Noni Madueke‘s late goal was enough to keep the Gunners second. They return to the Emirates hoping to make it seven wins from eight, and they have an opponent they generally thrive against. Everton are making the trip to the Emirates, with a more away record.
The Toffees have won just two of their previous 35 Premier League visits to Arsenal, across both Highbury and the Emirates. Arsenal have won 26 of those meetings with just six draws. Everton’s last away win against Arsenal came in April 2021, courtesy of a Bernd Leno own goal. The first win came over 30 years ago, with a 2-1 win at Highbury thanks to goals from Graham Stuart and Andrei Kanchelskis.
Chelsea vs Tottenham
- Chelsea could win a seventh consecutive Premier League game against Tottenham for the first time.
There aren’t many more one-sided rivalries in the Premier League than Chelsea against Tottenham. The Blues have won 39 of the 68 meetings to date, with 21 draws and just eight wins for Spurs. Only one of those Tottenham wins has come at Stamford Bridge, a surprise 3-1 victory on April Fool’s Day in 2018. Tottenham won the next fixture at home too, but Chelsea have dominated since.
Chelsea have won 12 of the past 15 league games against Tottenham, with two draws and one defeat. That last defeat came in February 2023, a 2-0 win for Tottenham at their new stadium. Since then, though, Chelsea have won their past six league games against Tottenham. It’s their joint-best streak in this fixture, also winning six Premier League matches between January 2000 and March 2002.
Man Utd vs Bournemouth
- Man Utd could draw four Premier League games in a row for the first time since 1992.
Michael Carrick seems to be breaking a record with every game. And they’re not the kind of records he wants to be breaking. There’s another one to avoid this weekend too. Manchester United are now winless in their past five Premier League games, dropping them to 13th in the table. Four of those have been draws, including each of the past three.
It’s not the first time Man Utd have drawn three Premier League games in a row. In fact, their final three matches before Carrick took charge were all draws. In total, Man Utd have drawn three consecutive Premier League matches on 11 separate occasions. But those runs have all ended in the fourth game. Man Utd have only drawn four or more consecutive Premier League games once in their history. It came in the very first season, with Man Utd drawing five consecutive matches between September and October. Man Utd did still win the title that season, but it’s still not a streak Carrick will want to recreate.
Liverpool vs Brighton
- Liverpool could go six Premier League home games without a win for the first time since 2020/21.
Andoni Iraola has his Liverpool side fifth in the table, with three wins from their seven games so far. It’s a decent start for the new boss, though there are some still questions to be answered. Perhaps the most worrying thing is that none of Liverpool’s three league wins this season have come at Anfield. They’ve beaten Ipswich, Bournemouth and Brentford, all away from home.
At Anfield, Liverpool have been beaten by Man City, while drawing with Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Winning at Anfield has been a longer problem too. Including the end of last season, Liverpool are now five games without a home win in the league. Crystal Palace were the last visiting team to lose at Anfield, a 3-1 win for the Reds at the end of April. Another failure here, and Liverpool would go winless at home for six consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2020/21 (eight matches). This one wouldn’t be as bad as that run, though, with Liverpool losing six consecutive league games at Anfield.
Hull vs Brentford
- Igor Thiago needs one more goal to become Brentford’s joint-fourth highest Premier League scorer.
Brentford travel to face Hull City in poor form. The Bees are winless in their past eight away league games and have only won two matches this season. To make things worse, Brentford have dropped 11 points from winning positions this season, leading in all five matches they have failed to win. But Igor Thiago will be hoping to get them back on the right track.
The Brazilian has scored 23 goals for Brentford in the Premier League since joining in 2024. That’s already enough to place him fifth on the list of the Bees’ all-time top scorers in the competition. A goal this weekend will see Thiago move joint-fourth alongside Kevin Schade. Only Yoane Wissa (45), Bryan Mbeumo (42) and Ivan Toney (36) have more Premier League goals for Brentford.
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle
- If Crystal Palace conceded twice, they’ll have had their worst defensive start to a Premier League season.
Pierre Sage‘s time at Selhurst Park could be running out. Crystal Palace have lost four of their seven league games so far, with two wins and one draw. It leaves them 14th in the table, just two points clear of the early relegation zone. The most worrying thing about Sage’s time so far is Crystal Palace’s defensive struggle. The Eagles have the worst defence in the Premier League, conceding 17 goals across their seven games so far. They also have the joint-worst goal difference, at -8.
Unfortunately for Palace fans, they’ve been here before. The disastrous start to the 2017/18 season saw Crystal Palace lose their opening seven games. During that time they also conceded 17 goals, including nine across two games against Man City and Man Utd. Crystal Palace did win their eighth game, but still conceded in a 2-1 win over Chelsea. If Crystal Palace were to concede twice to Newcastle United this weekend, they’d usurp 2017/18 as their most goals conceded after eight games of a Premier League season.
Sunderland vs Leeds
- Sunderland are looking to avoid five consecutive Premier League defeats for the first time since January 2016.
Things aren’t going well for Sunderland this season. After their strong return to the top flight, the Black Cats now sit bottom of the table. They’ve only taken four points from their opening seven games, with one win and one draw alongside five defeats. Sunderland lost to Ipswich Town on the opening weekend of the season but bounced back with a win over Fulham and draw against Brentford.
Since then, though, it’s been nothing but defeats. Sunderland have lost to Arsenal, Man City, Brighton and Bournemouth across their past four games. Three of those defeats can be understand, but fans will have been frustrated by giving Bournemouth their first defeat of the season last time out. Leeds are tough opponents this weekend, and Sunderland could be staring in the face of an even worse run. Sunderland haven’t lost five consecutive Premier League games since the 2015/16 season — beaten by Arsenal, Watford, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool. They did manage to stay up that season, though, being relegated a year later.
