    Sunderland Squawka Score Ratings 2025-26

With the 2025-26 season over, we’ve taken a look at Sunderland’s most-used XI from this season below and how the players have managed to perform according to the Squawka Score rating system.

The Squawka Score is a metric developed to assess a player’s performance related to other players in the same position. It’s a percentage rating from 0 to 100, calculated based on various per-90-minute statistics, including the obvious stats such as goals and assists, but also some more obscure ones that are more position-specific.

GK: Robin Roefs – 58% – Roefs’ ranking dropped significantly in the second half of the season compared to the first. However, he ranked well against his peers for goals conceded per 90 minutes and for his passing. Roefs also didn’t score too badly for goals prevented and a lack of errors leading to shots.

RB: Nordi Mukiele – 65% – Mukiele sits in the 95th percentile and above among full-backs for his clearances per 90, aided by his time spent at centre-back. But he also ranked well for a lack of challenges lost and his ground duel success rate. He even sits in the 80-95th percentile for big chances created.

CB: Dan Ballard – 57% – Ballard has been one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League this season. He ranks well for his ground duel success rate but is even better for aerial duels won and clearances per 90. Ballard’s passing does let him down slightly.

CB: Omar Alderete – 58% – Alderete helped form part of a pretty solid defence at Sunderland, although they shipped more goals in the second half of the season than they did the first. He ranked well for clearances and a lack of challenges lost per 90.

LB: Reinildo Mandava – 47% – Mandava didn’t perform nearly as well as his full-back partner. He doesn’t win as many of his ground duels and isn’t as good going forward. But he does sit in the 95th percentile and above for his clearances per 90.

CM: Granit Xhaka – 71% – Xhaka was a good signing for Sunderland to sit in front of their defence. He sits in the best group among central midfielders for his lack of unsuccessful touches and dispossessions in his own half. Xhaka also sits in the 80-95th percentile for completed passes into the final third.

CM: Noah Sadiki – 51% – Sadiki sits in the 60-80th percentile for interceptions retaining possession, but he did score poorly for his tackles and general ball retention.

AM: Enzo Le Fee – 50% – Le Fee didn’t do too well in terms of influencing Sunderland’s attack. He ranked poorly for goal involvements and a general threat. But he has been used in many roles across the entire campaign.

RW: Trai Hume – 31% – It’s no surprise to see Hume score so poorly, given he’s a full-back very much being shoehorned into the starting XI.

LW: Chemsdine Talbi – 45% – Talbi generally scored poorly across the board in key attacking metrics. He does sit in the 60-80th percentile for open-play crosses completed and through balls completed, though.

ST: Brian Brobbey – 59% – Brobbey didn’t rank too well for his goals per 90, but he is in the 80-95th percentile for Expected Goal overperformance.

    Sunderland set-piece specialists:

    • Penalties: Enzo Le Fee
    • Free-kicks: Granit Xhaka, Enzo Le Fee, Trai Hume
    • Corners: Granit Xhaka, Enzo Le Fee
