Next Newcastle manager odds: Contenders to replace Eddie Howe if he leaves the Toon

Eddie Howe is currently the tenth longest-serving manager across England’s top-4 tiers and fourth longest-serving in the Premier League behind only Pep Guardiola (Man City), Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), and Marco Silva (Fulham).

In under five years in charge of Newcastle, the English manager has delivered the club their first major trophy in 70 years, overseen Champions League campaigns, and has managed the most Premier League matches of any Newcastle manager; recently surpassing legends Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson.

However, 2026 has brought increased scrutiny, notably in the last few months following a difficult run of eight defeats in 11 league games, which has seen the Magpies plummet to 14th; leaving the club closer to the relegation zone than the top-five. They’ve also dropped a league-high 25 points from winning positions this season, including a 2-1 defeat at home to rivals Sunderland, a game they led 1-0.

As a result, speculation is growing that Newcastle could opt for a fresh chapter with his future set to be decided at the end of the season. With that said, here’s a look at the latest next Newcastle manager odds featuring the leading contenders to replace Howe should he leave St James’ Park.

Andoni Iraola

Andoni Iraola’s decision to leave Bournemouth this summer could trigger a managerial domino effect, with several clubs likely to pursue the Spaniard due to his outstanding work on the south coast.

Iraola has the Cherries on a club record 13 Premier League game unbeaten run, which has fired them in contention for a place in Europe. Along the way, he has outmanoeuvred high-profile counterparts such as Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot, while also raising the level of his squad and nurturing emerging talents like teenage prospect Junior Kroupi.

Iraola is the current 2/1 joint-favourite with talkSPORT BET to replace Howe should the latter leave. The in-demand 43-year-old is also being linked with a return to Athletic Club and is the 11/2 second favourite to take charge of Real Madrid. Premier League side Crystal Palace (6/1) – whose own boss Oliver Glasner will exit at the end of the season – will have Iraola on their radar, and uncertainty at clubs like Chelsea (10/1), Liverpool (7/1) and Manchester United (6/1) could further increase demand for his services.

Whoever secures his services is in for a treat.

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho features alongside Iraola at 2/1 in the betting. A manager that needs no introduction may not be quite done with the Premier League just yet following spells at Chelsea (twice), Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Since departing Spurs in 2021, Mourinho has led Roma to two European finals – winning the Europa Conference League – which was followed by a turbulent stint at Fenerbahce. He has been in charge of Benfica since September, where his side remain unbeaten in the league, though they trail Porto by seven points.

Mourinho ticks the box as a marquee appointment and brings a trophy haul of 27 major honours. He would no doubt relish the opportunity to return to the Premier League, but given the controversy that so often follows him, an appointment would likely come with plenty of fireworks.

Mauricio Pochettino

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea predicted XIs: Confirmed team news and probable lineups

Further back in the betting you’ll find Mauricio Pochettino at 25/1 with talkSPORT BET.

Obviously, Pochettino is currently locked in as the United States manager ahead of a home World Cup this summer, but if Newcastle are prepared to be patient, he could emerge as a potential option once the tournament concludes.

Pochettino is known for his progressive, high-intensity style, built on quick transitions and plenty of movement. He has a strong track record in the Premier League, catching the eye at Southampton before transforming Tottenham into title contenders and guiding them to a Champions League final. He later finally got his hands on silverware at PSG and most recently spent a season in charge of Chelsea.

Who else?

Oliver Glasner (6/1) will be available in the Job Centre after deciding to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is priced at 8/1 to make a Premier League return, while Fulham manager Marco Silva is available at 10/1 to swap dugouts.

Elsewhere, ex-Barcelona head coach Xavi is listed at 12/1, followed by Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna (16/1), Coventry’s Championship-winning manager Frank Lampard (20/1), and Sir Gareth Southgate (20/1).
