Mexico to win World Cup 2026 odds: Outright odds, top goalscorer and odds to win group A

Mexico got the 2026 World Cup underway with a 2-0 win over South Africa in a game with many talking points.

A raucous Azteca Stadium watched on as goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez gave the hosts a comfortable victory over the nine-man Bafana Bafana.

Mexico’s captain, Cesar Montes, was similarly dismissed in injury time, and will miss their next match versus South Korea on Friday 19th June.

Mexico odds to win the World Cup

Following Mexico’s opening victory against South Africa, their odds to win the tournament have been slashed from 80/1 into 66/1.

Javier Aguirre’s team made light work of their opponents on Thursday night, exposing the South Africans’ lack of composure and highlighting the gulf in quality between the pair.

Mexico are consistent qualifiers for the World Cup, having been one of only six nations to reach the finals in every edition since 1994.

It’s their performances once there that have left something to be desired. El Tri are often the second-strongest team in the group, leading to a tough first opponent in the knock-out stages. They were beaten in the Round of 16 by Brazil in 2018, the Netherlands in 2014 and Argentina in 2010.

With the expanded version of the tournament and a group they’ll feel they have a chance of winning, the CONCACAF nation could go further this time – but winning the whole thing seems unlikely, hence the odds of around 80/1 that are available at this time.

Mexico odds to win Group A

Mexico have a rare opportunity to win their World Cup group this summer. El Tricolor are often pitted against one of the top seeds, but as a co-host they themselves are the top seeds this time around and they’ve been drawn in one of the most open groups in the tournament.

As things stand, they’re the favourites to top the group, but as the table below shows the bookmakers don’t think there’s much in it between these well-matched teams. Their odds have shortened with Czech Republic beating Denmark to reach the finals.

Mexico World Cup Top Goalscorer Odds

At the time of writing, only two players are available to back in the Top Goalscorer market from the Mexico squad and it would come as a major shock if either of these players picked up the gong this summer.

Raul Jimenez, with 44 international goals to his name, is the more likely of the two at 100/1 ahead of Hirving Lozano at 150/1. Jimenez has scored six times in 25 Premier League appearances so far this season, but he’s been prolific of late for his country, scoring seven times across seven appearances at the CONCACAF Gold Cup and in the Nations League.

‘Chucky’ Lozano has been a goal threat throughout his career and has 18 international goals to his name. In his first season with San Diego FC in 2025 he found the net 11 times in 33 Major League Soccer appearances.
