Ecuador go into their second consecutive World Cup as a dark horse pick for many.
La Tri enjoyed a sensational qualifying campaign, finishing second only to Argentina in the Conmebol section, finishing above the likes of Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia with 29 points and just two defeats from 18 matches.
Ecuador will have fancied their chances of making it out of the group stage and, from there, upsetting a few major nations as the knockout rounds progress. However, their first two games have put them on the back foot.

Ecuador odds to win the World Cup
With pre-tournament odds of 100/1, Ecuador certainly weren’t among the World Cup favourites. However, they do join the likes of Morocco, Japan, Switzerland, and Denmark in the middle of the pack — among the sides most expect to navigate the group stage and then pose a serious threat to the favourites in the early knockout rounds.
Those odds then lengthened after they fell to a late 1-0 defeat to the Ivory Coast in their opening match. And even more due to their lack of end product that left them sharing the spoils with Curacao despite being heavily favoured.
This is Ecuador’s fifth World Cup campaign and second in a row. They went out in the group stage in Qatar, but only needed one more goal to make it through, while their four-point haul would likely have seen them qualify as one of the best third-place teams — a format that is now in play at this tournament.
Ecuador odds to win Group E
The draw placed Ecuador in a tough Group E at this summer’s tournament.
La Tri surely fancied themselves to comfortably beat debutants Curacao, but failed to do so.
Now, they will have to beat four-time champions Germany in order to have a chance of advancing, since they lost late to Ivory Coast.

Ecuador World Cup top goalscorer odds
Enner Valencia is, in theory, Ecuador’s best bet to win the World Cup Golden Boot.
The former West Ham man has put himself in great chances to score, but has wasted all four of the clear-cut goalscoring opportunities he has received so far – all against Curacao.
La Tri are still yet to score in the tournament but there could be something for them against an already qualified Germany on Round 3.
