Belgium have endured a real rollercoaster at their 15th World Cup this summer but they remain in the tournament as we head into the round of 16.
It took a while for the Red Devils to get going, following draws against Iran and Egypt to start. However, Trossard and De Bruyne, in particular, lit up Vancouver in their final group match, firing Belgium to a 5-1 win against New Zealand — jumping top of Group G in the process.
It looked for all the world like they’d be heading home in the round of 32 as they trailed Senegal 2-0 with five minutes left before a remarkable comeback saw Rudi Garcia’s men emerge as 3-2 winners after extra-time.

Belgium odds to win the World Cup
Punters could initially back Belgium at as long as 50/1 to win the World Cup for the first time in their history, which placed them approximately 11th in the outright odds table alongside Colombia, and some distance behind the favoured European trio of Spain, England, and France.
Having briefly seen their odds shorten as a result of a thumping win over New Zealand, the comeback victory over Senegal didn’t do much to convince the bookmakers of their potential to win the whole tournament and the European side have drifted back out to 50/1 as a result.
Belgium came closest in 2018, when they finished third. But they endured a torrid and toxic campaign four years ago in Qatar. The Red Devils bowed out in the group stages and scored just one goal as they finished third behind Morocco and Croatia. It was an almighty disappointment for their Golden Generation.

Romelu Lukaku is yet to reclaim form and fitness in 2026 after missing the second chunk of 2025 through injury. No player from his country has found the back of the net more times at the World Cup, and he got his 2026 campaign going with a goal late on against New Zealand, before following that up with the goal that kickstarted the comeback against Senegal. He’s now priced at 100/1 to be top goalscorer at the tournament.
Belgium’s starting 11 brims with attacking talent. Leandro Trossard has enjoyed an excellent season for Arsenal and grabbed a brace in the final group game, Jeremy Doku has dazzled at times for Manchester City, and Kevin De Bruyne brings the nous and experience.
