Liverpool and Arsenal meet in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday at 4:30pm.
Liverpool have managed to stay within touching distance of the Premier League title-chasing pack, despite some mixed form.
The Reds have not yet fully hit their stride under Andoni Iraola. That didn’t stop them from breaking into the top four with a win over high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.
That result was followed up with a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, so confidence may be a little higher ahead of this visit from the reigning champions.
Arsenal suffered a devastating loss to Fleetwood Town in their own EFL Cup match in midweek.
The Gunners were held 1-1 by the Cod Army in normal time before succumbing to the League Two outfit on penalties. Mikel Arteta will be happy to get back to league action no doubt, where the Gunners have been much stronger this season.
A comfortable win over Everton last Saturday leaves the North Londoners level on points with league leaders Manchester City ahead of Enzo Maresca‘s side’s clash with Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool vs Arsenal team news
Liverpool team news
Two regular Liverpool starters face late fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s match against Arsenal at Anfield.
Victor Munoz, who has impressed since his summer arrival from Osasuna, has been missing for the last few weeks. The Spanish winger has missed his side’s last three games after hurting his knee against Brentford. However, he could return here.
Andoni Iraola is taking more care with Dominik Szoboszlai‘s hamstring injury. The Hungarian returned too early against Brentford in October and had to miss a handful more games, but he is expected to be fit enough for the bench at least in this game.
There are still a handful of Reds stars that are nowhere near full fitness just yet.
Jeremie Frimpong‘s hamstring problem is expected to keep him out for at least another two weeks. Fellow full-back Connor Bradley picked up a signifcant injury against Arsenal last season and he could return in a few more weeks.
Both Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike are still some way from making their own comebacks, although the French forward is supposedly further along in his recovery than his team-mate at this stage.
Arsenal team news
The biggest question mark for Arsenal is over who will start on the right wing. With Bukayo Saka already out with a long-term injury, youngster Max Dowman will miss this trip to Anfield through suspension after being sent off in the EFL Cup loss at Fleetwood Town.
Noni Madueke is the obvious choice, although he missed that trip to the Fylde coast with an ankle knock. The England international is facing a race against the clock to be fit for this huge Super Sunday clash.
Declan Rice and Ricardo Calafiori were also left out of that trip. Both players suffered slight niggles in the win over Everton last weekend, but should return here.
William Saliba is yet to feature this season, but he could be back before the end of November. The Frenchman has been out with a serious back injury since pre-season.
