How to Watch the Premier League Online in the UK

In the UK there are two legal streaming options through which you can watch Premier League football during the season. The first is with Sky Sports and their affiliate NowTV and the second is with TNT Sports and Discovery.

To stream Premier League matches with Sky Sports, you’ll need an active Sky Sports subscription, which can be accessed through the Sky Go app on mobile, tablet, laptop, or smart TV. Sky broadcasts the largest number of Premier League games in the UK, offering live coverage of multiple fixtures each matchweek. Once you’ve logged into the Sky Go app with your Sky ID, you can watch matches live.

If you don’t have a Sky TV package, you can still stream Premier League matches using NOW TV (NOW Sports). This flexible option lets you purchase Sports Day or Month Memberships, which grant instant access to all 11 Sky Sports channels without a long-term contract. Simply sign up on the NOW website or app, choose your pass, and start streaming through a smart TV, console, or mobile device. It’s ideal if you want to watch specific matches or busy weekends of football without committing to a full subscription.

To watch Premier League matches through TNT Sports, you’ll need an active subscription, which is available via Discovery+. TNT Sports shows a selection of live Premier League fixtures each week, typically Saturday lunchtime kick-offs, along with exclusive studio coverage and analysis. Subscribers can stream matches directly through the Discovery+ app on smart TVs, mobile devices, tablets, or web browsers. Once signed in, you can enjoy live games and additional competitions covered by this broadcaster such as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League — all included under the same plan.

For viewers who don’t have a pay-TV contract, Discovery+ makes it easy to watch TNT Sports on a flexible, streaming-only basis. You can simply create a Discovery+ account, choose the “TNT Sports” plan, and start streaming instantly. The platform supports HD streaming and allows you to pause and rewind live matches, making it a convenient choice for following the action wherever you are.

There have been other providers Premier League live stream options in the UK in recent seasons, notably Amazon who had exclusive rights over specific matchweeks, but that deal has now ended. While they continue to show English teams playing in the Champions League, they no longer have the rights for any Premier League fixtures as of the 2025/26 campaign.

While there are no laws preventing the usage of VPNs in the United Kingdom, using a VPN to stream 3pm Premier League matches in the UK isn’t recommended because it breaks the streaming service’s terms and bypasses UK broadcast restrictions, which could get your account suspended or blocked.

Why Aren’t All Premier League Games Streamed Live in the UK?

The UK has a 3pm blackout not only on Premier League games but on all EFL (Championship, League One, League Two), National League, and Scottish league fixtures, as well as most domestic cup matches scheduled for 3pm on Saturdays.

The 3pm blackout exists to protect live match attendances at lower-league and grassroots games. It was introduced in the 1960s so fans wouldn’t stay home to watch televised top-flight matches instead of going to their local club’s game, helping maintain gate receipts and the overall football pyramid’s financial health.

It remains a hot topic of discussion among football fans but supporters can still keep in touch with the action via live radio commentary, text updates, and match trackers while some apps offer minute-by-minute text commentary and post-match highlights are available to watch.

Upcoming Changes to Premier League Broadcasting

The current Premier League TV deal is set to remain in place until 2029 and is worth around £6.7 billion to the league, the biggest domestic broadcast agreement in English football history. It keeps Sky Sports, TNT Sports, and Amazon as main broadcasters, with Sky showing most matches, TNT retaining key slots, and Amazon’s games moving to TNT from 2025.
