Squawka’s World Cup AI Predictor: AI score predictions for today’s games at the 2026 World Cup

Using data from previous tournaments and qualifying, we’ve tasked our model with creating some World Cup AI predictions with correct score picks on every match at this summer’s tournament.

Our AI predictor combines data from qualifying matches, previous World Cups, bookmakers and more to determine the most likely correct score outcome from the game.

As the tournament progresses, the model will focus more heavily on the games that have already taken place within the tournament and it will look beyond results to input shot, possession and general match momentum data to see where value may lie.

Mexico vs England

The tie of the round, and potentially the tie of the tournament so far. Mexico have been extraordinary — four wins from four, eight goals scored, none conceded, playing at home in front of what will be the loudest atmosphere of the World Cup. Jesus Quinones leads their scoring with three goals, Raul Jimenez has added two, and the team has been a collective masterclass in organisation and intensity.

England, meanwhile, have quietly built an impressive record — four games unbeaten, eight goals scored, with Harry Kane on five goals and Jude Bellingham adding two. The 2-1 win over DR Congo in the round-of-16 was not always comfortable, and Bellingham is now on a yellow card. The Estadio Azteca will be one of the most hostile environments any England side has faced in recent memory, and the weight of that occasion cannot be underestimated. Mexico’s perfect defensive record against England’s clinical attack is the defining tension of this match. This is genuinely too close to call — but Mexico’s home advantage, and momentum being offset by England’s experience in knockout football makes this a coin-flip.

AI Prediction: Mexico 1-1 England (England to win on pens)

Portugal vs Spain

The Iberian derby, and arguably the tie of the round. Spain have been the tournament’s most defensively dominant side — eight goals scored, none conceded in four games — and the 3-0 dismantling of Austria was a statement of their quality. Mikel Oyarzabal leads their scoring with four goals, and Lamine Yamal has been the tournament’s most exciting young player. Only Pedri and Álex Baena are on yellow cards — a clean disciplinary record that reflects their control of every game.

Portugal carry enormous individual quality. Cristiano Ronaldo has three goals, and the 2-1 win over Croatia showed their ability to win tight knockout games. However, five players are on yellow cards — Rúben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Semedo, Araújo, and Veiga — a disciplinary tightrope that will affect how aggressively they can press. Spain’s defensive record is the defining factor: no side has scored against them in four games. Spain are favourites, but this is a derby.

AI Prediction: Portugal 0-1 Spain (AET)

AI Prediction: Portugal 0-1 Spain (AET)

USA vs Belgium

Enormous home-nation significance. The USA have been impressive — ten goals in four games — and Folarin Bagolun will be allowed to play despite being sent off in their round of 32 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Belgium have been building quietly, with Lukaku, Tielemans, and Trossard all scoring twice, and De Bruyne pulling the strings. Noa Ngoy is also suspended (red card) for Belgium. Without Balogun, the USA need Reyna, Tillman, and Freeman to step up in front of a raucous home crowd.

AI Prediction: USA 2-1 Belgium

Argentina vs Egypt

Messi is on seven goals and Argentina remain the tournament’s most feared outfit, though the 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in the last round showed they can be held. Egypt have been one of the tournament’s pleasant surprises — unbeaten in four — but head into this with Yasser Ibrahim and Mohanad Lasheen both suspended (two yellows each). Losing two players to suspension for a last-16 game is a serious handicap against Argentina’s depth and quality.

AI Prediction: Argentina 2-0 Egypt

Switzerland vs Canada

Identical records, identical points — the most evenly matched tie of the round. Manzambi leads Switzerland’s scoring with three goals, and their defensive record of just three conceded in four games is outstanding. Colombia have been equally disciplined — five goals scored, only one conceded — but carry the tournament’s heaviest disciplinary burden with six players on yellow cards. Switzerland’s defensive solidity gives them the narrowest of edges.

AI Prediction: Switzerland 1-0 Colombia (AET)
