All eyes may have been on the Premier League’s resumption, but the Championship also returned with some explosive fixtures.
It’s all to play for in the race for promotion, with Leeds pulling away slightly from West Brom over the weekend, while there are a raft of clubs still fighting for their lives at the foot of the table.
Key to those quests for safety, and entry to the Promised Land, will be those bedazzling assist-merchants. Have the league’s top playmakers picked up from where they left off? Or are we set for a late charge from an unlikely creative source?
West Brom’s talismanic loanee Matheus Pereira currently leads the way alongside Bristol City’s Niclas Eliasson for most assists this season on 12, while John Swift of Reading makes up the top three and the only players to reach double digits thus far.
Jed Wallace of Millwall is clinging to the coattails of the top three on nine, while Brentford’s Chelsea target Said Benrahma is not far behind on eight assists alongside a group of seven including Jacob Brown of Barnsley, Stewart Downing and Lee Tomlin.
