La Liga leaders Real Madrid are 10 points clear of Sevilla at the top of the table. Last time out, they ran out 3-0 winners at Visit Mallorca Estadi against Mallorca, extending their undefeated run to eight matches (six wins and two draws). Karim Benzema has been nothing short of sensational for Real this season. He is their leading scorer with 22 goals, with no other player managing more in the league in 2021/22, seven of which have been the critical first of the match. Across 14 league contests on home soil this season, Real are unbeaten with 10 wins and four draws. Los Blancos will be out to prolong a 24-match home unbeaten streak (17 wins and seven draws) dating to February 2021 against Getafe. In their last six league matches, Real Madrid have won five and drawn one.

As for Barcelona they claimed a 4-0 success over Osasuna at home last weekend subsequently extending their unbeaten streak to 12 games (eight wins and four draws), leaving them in third place on 51 points with 11 matches left. Barça trail first-placed Real Madrid by 15 points and lead fifth-placed Real Betis by two for a spot in next season’s Champions League group phase. Memphis Depay has been the most prolific player for Barcelona, netting on 10 occasions, including three match-opening goals. In league matches away from Camp Nou this season, Barcelona have five wins, seven draws, and two losses. Barça will be out to extend a 10-match away unbeaten streak (five wins and five draws). They haven’t been beaten away since October 2021 against Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona have won five and drawn one in their last six.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona: Match Stats

With their Super Cup semi-final victory in January 2022 (3-2), Real Madrid became the first team in Clásico history to reach 100 wins across all competitions (248 matches, 100 wins, 52 draws and 96 defeats). Real Madrid have won their last five games with Barcelona in all competitions. Only Los Blancos, with seven wins between April 1962 and February 1965, have achieved a better run in the history of this fixture. On top of that, no side in Europe’s big five leagues have suffered fewer defeats than Real Madrid since the start of last season (six – level with Inter Milan).

Karim Benzema has scored in two of his last three meetings with Barcelona in all competitions, the same number of goals as he did in his previous 16 matches against them. However, their manager Carlo Ancelotti has lost three of his five meetings with Barcelona in La Liga — winning the other two — this is his joint-worst record of defeats against the same opponent in the competition along with Atlético Madrid (one win and three defeats across five matches).

Barcelona have more wins (10-8) and scored more goals (41-34) than Real Madrid in La Liga Clásico matches played in Madrid in the 21st century. However, Barcelona have lost their last two visits, and could suffer three defeats in a row for the first time this century. Barça have not lost any of their last 10 away league games (five wins and five draws), nine of them with Xavi (five wins and four draws). In fact, Xavi could become only the second Barça coach to be unbeaten in his first 10 away games in the competition, after Ernesto Valverde, who did not lose any of his first 18 (12 wins and six draws).

On the flip side, Xavi could also become only the third Barcelona coach to lose in each of his first two games against Real Madrid in all competitions in the 21st century, following Valverde in 2017 and Ronald Koeman in 2021, who lost all three of his Clásicos as coach. But on a more impressive note: Barcelona have taken 34 points from 15 games in LaLiga (10 wins, four draws and one loss) since Xavi’s arrival, a record only bettered by Real Madrid since then (39 points – 12 wins, 3 draws and one loss).
