Group A at the 2026 World Cup looks to be one of the most open in the competition.
The draw placed Mexico, one of the three hosts, into Group A alongside South Korea and South Africa. The Czech Republic joined the group after their qualifying play-off victory in March.
Mexico are the favourites to win Group A, with the bookmakers thinking home advantage will be vital. South Africa are the outsiders to top the group, without much separating Czech Republic and South Korea in the betting.
South Africa, the weakest of the four teams, will likely struggle to dominate the group. The 2026 sees a new format, with three teams advancing from eight of the 12 groups. Despite this, we can’t see Bafana Bafana making it and we’re backing them to not qualify from Group A.

World Cup 2026 Group A Fixtures
Mexico and South Africa open the World Cup, a repeat of the opening matchup at the 2010 World Cup. South Korea and Czech Republic will meet in the other opening match in Group A.
Mexico take on South Korea on matchday two in what could be a key match in determining the group winner. Czech Republic and South Africa will meet in the other fixture on the second matchday.
The final Group A games take place at the same time on Thursday 25th June. South Africa take on South Korea, while Mexico play Czech Republic and all four teams hoping to find the results they need to qualify.
